Column width – can I change it in Eight?

  I’ve just bought and activated the Eight theme and I’m in the process of playing around with it – not happy with it yet but will keep tweaking. I can’t seem to fit all the writing in the column on the right though, and see nothing that tells me where or how I can either alter the column width or reduce the font size in that column. I’m NOT an expert in any of this so would appreciate some really basic advice to help me resolve the issue, which I am sure is down to my own ignorance!!

  Did you also purchase the Custom Design upgrade when you bought the theme? Without that, you will not be able to change the width of the column or change font size in the CSS. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/

  I already have that. Problem is, I’m such a novice, I don’t really know what I am doing! I will persevere and keep looking around and I think I’ll get there eventually. My latest post explains my problem I think!! Thanks :)

  I would suggest limiting the width of the titles in the recent entries section, which I think is what you are talking about, correct? The following will do that, but one thing that kind of messes things up is that wordpress automatically puts non-breaking spaces between the last two words of a title or sentence so as to prevent orphaned words (single word on a line) so the “Open letter to the Highways Agency” title is going to break a little weird.

  width: 420px;
  }

  Also since you are using some custom fonts, you can increase or reduce font sizes on the custom font page.

  Thanks, I know how to + or – font size, it is just the side bar that is confounding me at the moment. I’ll play around with it and thanks for the tip :)

  The categories cloud was a mess the other day but I see you have changed it to the standard categories widget and are using the pulldown. The rest of the sidebar looks OK to me (large, but OK).

  What exactly did you want to change on it and we can help with that.

  Thanks, I am persevering and working out how to change things, and gradually it is looking more like I want it to look!! It’s like doing a degree course for me but I will get there! Thank you for your help though, is really appreciated!
