Columnist theme – many problems
-
We have a few problems with Columnist theme:
1 – The main one is that sometimes the full site shows up correctly but other times the logo or articles or ALL CONTENT dissapears. I clear cookies but once you click on an entry and return to home, especially on mobile devices but also on my computer, the content will dissapear, leaving only the home button.
2 – we tried to download the upgrade but when we got the unzipped file there was nowhere to upload it to. We couldnt find the wp/content files and we are not at all web programmers… basically, it seems you can not upload the upgraded theme unless you are hosted somewhere else but wordpress.
3 – We selected the use of the mobile theme and while it worked initially (although didnt keep the Columnist aesthetic at all) it went back to the full site, no matter how many times we changed the mobile settings through WP.
Basically, content keeps disappearing, our logo as well, we cant upload the upgrade onto wordpress (and we are paying for Premium version) and the mobile version is not working. We love the look but cant find help on these issues.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s definitely strange. Here are some troubleshooting questions:
– In what browser/version does this happen?
– If you check a different browser at the moment this happens, what does it look like?
– Does it make a difference if you’re logged in or out?2 – we tried to download the upgrade but when we got the unzipped file there was nowhere to upload it to. The theme download is not for use here on WordPress.com. It’s provided only for people who are hosting the WordPress software on their own hosting.

That too is very strange.
Activating the mobile theme is actually recommended with The Columnist, because it’s an older theme that is not responsive, so it won’t be very readable on smaller mobile devices.
Are you activating the mobile theme from under Appearance > Mobile:
https://articlemtl.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=mobile-options
Or from somewhere else?
I’m currently seeing the mobile theme active on your site.

Basically we realize that we can’t upload the 3.0 version of columnist because it’s only when you self-host which I didn’t know since I was linked to it from WordPress. If we decide to selfhost do we need to move the site? Also I just bought the WordPress premium package- if we self host and already have our domain name from namecheap is the premium package I got useless? Is it easy to switch to wordpress.org if that’s what’s required to selfhost? We have a server I can use at my work…

You can either move it yourself (or hire someone) or use our Guided Transfer service.
Is it easy to switch to wordpress.org if that’s what’s required to selfhost?
We have a full guide on moving from WordPress.com to a self-hosted installation here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/
Also I just bought the WordPress premium package- if we self host and already have our domain name from namecheap is the premium package I got useless?
WordPress.com Premium is only for sites hosted here on WordPress.com. You may issue yourself a refund for the plan in your dashboard if it was purchased less than 30 days ago.
