Columnist Theme Needs Soft Hypen for Title Text

Emulating a headline, the Columnist Theme breaks words longer than ten characters. As a work-around, I’ve been able to add a hyphen and word space, to make the break grammatically correct at the post.
However, I’ve just discovered that the title text appears with that hyphen wherever else it is used.
Is it possible to add code to title text, so the hyphen becomes discretionary and only appears on the post?
I’m using the standard Columnist theme off the shelf – no CSS changes.

Hi there,
There isn’t code that you can add here at WordPress.com to make the hyphen only appear on the post and not elsewhere. However, if you’d like to customize how your theme looks (for example, changing the theme design so the post titles look different) you can do that with the Custom Design upgrade.
With custom design, you can add CSS to change the size of your titles or the CSS rules for word wrapping and line breaks. If you decide to go that route, we have tips for getting started with CSS here:
