  How do I create columns on my blog? I am using Responsive.
  This is probably simple but I have wasted 0.5 days trying to figure it out.

  Are you referring to the columns in the widgets as shown here?

  If so, you will just need to assign the widgets to Left, Middle, or Right Home as shown on your Widgets page here:
