Columns question
-
(first, My apologies if this is the wrong place, but it is a question.)
I’m very new here. I’m still just futzing around with the themes trying to get something useful.
What’s I’d *like* is a two column theme with the left column of the home page set up for HTML text and the right set up for the most recent posts. I’d prefer a horizontal navigation bar, but that doesn’t matter much.
None of the themes seem to allow you to adjust the width and content of the sidebars except by tossing in widgets. I can *almost* do what I want with the plain text widget, but the sidebars are all so narrow the text becomes horrible to read.
Any thoughts?

If the blog is hosted here at wordpress.COM, then to change the width of the sidebar or post area you would have to have CSS editing experience and the paid CSS upgrade. In some themes it is quite easy to make the changes, and in some it is more difficult.

If you don’t mind having the sidebar to the right, you could use Andreas 04. Both the main column and the sidebar have flexible width; in addition, you can take advantage of the whole sidebar width by adding an empty text widget to “Sidebar 2” and adding text widgets to “Sidebar 1” with their content enclosed in this code:
<div style="width:200%;"> CONTENT_HERE </div>And pease paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.
