.com and .org themes interchangeable?
-
Am I able to use a WordPress.com theme for WordPress.org. Can I transfer the theme?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. Neither the free themes nor the paid themes are transferable. However, you will find there are versions of some of the themes that are on WordPress.org too. I think it’s important to know that wordpress.com is a WP-MU blogging platform. The themes here were all originally coded to run on free standing wordpress.org software installs. In order to run on wordpress.com software they were “adapted” and some features were. The themes we use here are all derived from shared templates. Every blog waring the same theme here is using the same template.

The Themes here have a LOT of Widgets to add functions. The Themes at .ORG have fewer Widgets, depending on your Theme and the functions you need you will need to learn about Plug-in’s

In my experience trying to use .COM themes that no longer exist outside of .COM on self-hosted blogs, there is a good bit of work that is required, and at least with my level of PHP script and CSS experience, I’ve never been able to get them all the way there. They work after I get done, but they are by no means as smooth as they should be.

@TSP
I tactfully chose not to speak for you above as I knew you would be along to say this. ;) -
What about the members of my site. How would I be able to transfer the subscribers from .com to .org?
Is it at all possible?

workoutlab.wordpress.com doesn’t exist
bodybuildingbasictraining.wordpress.com is no longer available.
The authors have deleted this blog.
Does not look like you have anything to transfer.

Currently you cannot export/import WordPress.com subscribers’ email addresses. -
@bradborland
Click your username and find that it’s linked to a deleted WordPress.com blog. To link it to your active blog do this > Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Website‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.Now every time you sign into the forum we can all click on your username and your blog will be linked to it. And every time you leave a comment on a blog your username can be likewise clicked and your blog can be instantly located.

You’re welcome. On the subject of blog subscriptions and a future move to a WordPress.org blog is you use Feedburner for your subscriptions then they are transferable.
-
Thanks. How about Premium Themes. Some are built by a third party – still not transferrable? I am looking at the “delicious magazine” theme in particular.
-
They are still not transferable. WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG run on different software. The themes are coded differently. This is stated here >
Note: Premium Themes are customized for WordPress.com usage only, and cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
