Com boxes
-
I have looked all over for the option that I used to see that let me NOT display com boxes. Have tried screen options, comments, discussions, forum question (it has been disabled) and now I’m here.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

What is a com box? Do you mean you want to disable comments?
All WordPress blogs by default have comments open on all Pages and Posts. You can enable and disable comments on free hosted WordPress.com blogs on this page > Settings > DiscussionDiscussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

Yes, I mean I want to disable comments. I have been to all the links you suggest and I do not see any options to disable comments. On Screen Options there is no option to include the discussion module.
BYW, I’ve been using WordPress.org for years and have never had this problem before.

By default the Screen Options area is closed; when I expand it, these are the only options I get:
At a Glance
Activity
Your Stuff
What’s Hot
Quick Draft
Stats
Admin Preferences

Hello,
It appears you are looking at the Dashboard’s Screen Options Tab.
You were looking at a page like this: http://pbrd.co/1Da71BLTo disable comments for your entire blog, follow Timethief’s advice and go to Dashboard–>Settings–>Discussion to change the discussion defaults.
uncheck the “Allow people to post comments on new articles” box
Looks like this: http://pbrd.co/1Da7GmZIf, according to Timethief, you seek to edit individual posts to allow comments and THUS override your default settings you need to
1. Dashboard–>Posts and Check the screen-options box in the top-right.
It will give you a drop-down menu and you can select “Discussion”
See here: http://pbrd.co/1Da9lsx
2. When you do that a box will appear beneath your post with some options you can use that will allow you to override your default settings BUT only for the post.

Thank you (and timethief) for your assistance; unfortunately I’m still at square one, even after double checking all the settings you both have suggested. Here are screen shots of my dashboard’s settings for discussion, and posts:
DISCUSSION – http://reginacoeliacademy.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/discussions-screen-shot-2014-09-15-at-9-06-26-am.png
POSTS – http://reginacoeliacademy.files.wordpress.com/2014/09/pages-screen-shot-2014-09-15-at-9-04-27-am.png
I’ve also looked at the settings for “Pages” and they are identical to “Posts”.

Ok I think I got it:
When you go to make a post (so you have to be on the post screen), click the screen options tab at the top.
This will give you a drop down box.
Enable “Discussion”
http://pbrd.co/1qZ9OsF
A module (box) beneath your post should appear called “Discussion”
Remove the checked boxes to disable commenting

Then update or save the post.Example pre-changes:
