.com jetpack and gravatar load problems

For the last week or so I’m having trouble viewing wordpress.com sites.
1. gravatar.com seems to be down and loads endlessly, making for instance likes dysfuntional because it doesn’t load the icons. Since their support is closed a message from wp regarding this partner of yours would be appreciated if you know of trouble at that end.
2. galleries load wonky with images jumbled behind each other and don’t open to the carousel, slideshows just show a black box. I do have javascript enabled. Not just my site, all wp sites. I have no trouble loading any other websites.
I have to wait endlessly for the top bar to load also, before I can pick reader, stats or dashboard. On every single page I click. This also makes it difficult for me to reply to comments, as the input box is not working fully until everything is loaded. Logging out does not help with the other problems however.
Jetpack has released a new version last week – has this been installed for .com users as well?
My problem exists in IE and latest FF on PC as well as on my Android tablet FF.

This is the article I was reading – although the cross references between .com and .org are a bit beyond me as to who needs to update and why.
