Having the link redirect to WordPress.com log in page doesn’t sound right regardless.

Now I ended up at:
the log-in for a non WordPress.COM site – so once I get away from my confusion with the WordPress.COM site I am seeing behavior that I think is normal. The base site is also there if I take off the log-in stuff.
I think I am going to take a walk now :)

Yeah, patience is the key. The domain won’t point to your blog on Dreamhost until the new nameservers have propagated to your ISP.
It has been no where near the requisite 72 hours that some ISPs take to refresh their DNS caches.
