.com – .org transfer SEO
-
Hi,
I’m hosting a blog on wordpress.com with a domain mapping upgrade. Is it possible for me to transfer the content of the site to an existing self-hosted wordpress site by downloading and importing the .xml file without losing any SEO juice?I’m planning to keep the domain URL for the blog so I will have to assign it to the new domain. I don’t know how that links in with the domain mapping?
What is the most secure way to transfer the blog simply from .com to .org without losing any traffic, SEO or content?
Many thanks,
Andy
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can use the Site Redirect Upgrade redirect your WordPress.com blog (as well as all of your permalinks) to your new domain name. You can read more about this at http://en.support.wordpress.com/site-redirect/

Thanks for the reply, but I didn’t mean to redirect my blog to a new domain name but keep the domain name and move it to self hosted .org wordpress.
Thanks!

I see. Currently you have http://blog.cbarnesphotography.co.uk/ mapped to your WordPress.com blog. You’ll need to change or remove the CNAME record from your domain registrar’s control panel in order to stop or move the redirection.

Sorry to be a pain :) But the main problem I have is moving the content to a self-hosted blog. How can I move all the media content to a self hosted blog without losing any SEO on the media and the blog itself?

This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance:

As we only support blogs hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new blog–including the importing of the file–must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
SEO won’t be affected if you keep using the same (sub)domain address on your self-hosted site.
