.com to .org migration question
-
Hello,
Being a complete website build novice, I am wondering whether I have restricted myself when choosing WP.com option for my electrical/solar installation company site. Seems difficult to add a contact-me page and the ads are a nuisance. Could you advise of the procedure/ additional costs, to migrate to a WP.ORG deal.

Hi there!
Here’s a quick guide for adding a contact form to a page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact-form/
And in order to remove ads from your site, you just need to purchase the No Ads upgrade.
If you’d prefer to move to WordPress.org, this guide will step you through the process of moving your site to a WordPress.org instance:

Here’s a little information about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org:
As we only support sites hosted here at WordPress.com, all issues with the new site – including the importing of the file – must be taken to the WordPress.org support community:
If you’d like assistance moving your WordPress.com site to WordPress.org, we have a service called Guided Transfer that does all the work for you. Check it out to see if its right for you:

Let me know if there’s anything else I can help with! :)

Super advise thanks. It seems quite an upheaval to move from .com to .org, and I have found out how to add a contact page now. I shall stick with wp.com for now.
Could someone please advise as to why, when adding a contact widget into a contact us page, the form is filled with My name and email, which can be deleted but seems confusing to site users.
Thanks Duncan

Hi Duncan!
We auto-fill the forms with relevant information from the logged in viewer. So when I view your form, I see my own contact information automatically filled in already.
Does that make sense? Let me know if I can clarify further!
