.com v .org for uploading Video and using a plug in filter

    Hello,
I wondered if someone would be able to advise on my existing site please. I’m aware the .org sites can have plug ins, in my case id like a filter function, and also I can upload video content (I have a football coaching site). I’m happy to switch over and pay the server fee but wanted to check if I need to swap over or not – does .com have this functionality?
    Best,
    Ben

    Hi there,

I’m sorry but custom plugins aren’t allowed on WordPress.COM. :(

And video upload is only available for sites on the Premium and Business plan upgrade.

However you can upload the video to third party sites like YouTube, Vimeo and then embed it on WordPress.COM site for free.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have more questions :)

    Hi,
Thank you, this is most helpful.
Am I better off simply converting to WordPress.org?

    Hi,
Thank you, this is most helpful.

    You’re welcome :)

It is really up to you! :D
It depends on what you need. For instance, if you need full control over the site like editing html, css, php; full customization of themes and plugins then self hosted (WP.org) looks good for you.

If you just need a site where all the technical part is being taken care of by someone else and you just run a site/blog with limited customization (for security reasons) then WordPress.COM looks good for you.

But that is just a short comparison. You can dig deeper and see what fits your needs (and budget) :)

    Hello again,
The only functionality I need is a filtering system. Just a bit like a basic excel sheet with four drop down boxes. All the aesthetic stuff is neither here nor there really as it’s mainly for my own reference. I’m a sports coach and have Years and years of sessions and diagrams – I finally want to put them all in one place and categorise them. In .com, tags and categories can’t do this (I don’t think).
Video would be handy too. As for anything else design wise it can be as basic as it needs really.
