.com vs .org to get traffic

    Hi all

    After some opinions if possible.
I have a .com site, that has been dormant for a while, http://www.richchubb.wordpress.com.

In september, we headed off on hols, and I started a wordpress.org site http://www.ourtravelography.com, to share with family and friends.

I did this incase i ever wanted to customise more than .com would allow.

    Here’s my concern / question:

With very little effort, the wordpress.com got a few comments, and a handful of followers, largely I guess down to the network and community. The wordpress.org site I feel was only viewed by family and friends, as there is no community to attract other bloggers.

What are peoples opinions if you want to build up a following, stick with .com and limit the customisation, or plough on with .org, and hope it gets noticed on the world wide web?

I am not a techie, so customising is not really an issue at the moment, as long as I can make my blog a little different to others with the same theme.

    Opinions appreciated.

    Thanks
    Richard

Hi @richardachubb, you’re right that the wordpress.com system does sometimes allow for easier access into a larger community right away. But the right community really depends on each individual blog’s niche, I think, so it’s maybe too broad a question to answer definitively. The flip side is that .org sites have a wider range of tools available to them, and sometimes those tools work really well to help connect with their own audiences or peers. Everybody is different, and if .com worked more readily for you, that’s great.

It’s simple: if you want maximum SEO, stick with WordPress.com. If you want to leverage that with ads, you’re screwed.
