Combining blogs
-
I have a blog and approximately 3months ago I started an on-line podcast. When I started it I was hoping for a dozen or so followers. As it turned out my followers are in the hundreds. My blog here is http://project611.wordpress.com and I want to incorporate the podcast with the blog as the blog doesn’t seem to have all that many followers. The only thing I can think of is to make the podcast another selection in the menu or to register it as a new blog. However if I do that each blog will be different with its own address and I don’t really want that. I would like to make the podcast a portion of Project 611. As my main blog would be the umbrella and the podcast would be under the umbrella. Can you advise me on this issue? I’ve gone through all the help areas as well as the forums and was unable to find information.
By the way thanks for the service and if I could afford an upgrade I would. Great work, thank you.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Can you give me the URL of your podcast site? I have a few ideas for how you might do this, but I want to see both of your sites before I give any recommendations. :)

The podcast is located at:

I go live Wednesdy’s and Saturday’s at 2pm EST. Saturday’s are oldies day with Uncle Niel your Psychedelic Relic and The Traviling Band of Merry Misfits. Wednesday’s are open phone day geared towards folks with rare types of cancer. -
That’s awesome! So, I took a look around and it doesn’t look like there’s an easy way to embed the Spreaker player in a WordPress.com site because we block iframes for security reasons.
But, here are some steps you could take to sort of virtually combine them and encourage more cross over from your listeners.
- Style project611.wordpress.com to look similar to your Spreaker page. I’m not sure how much control you have over your Spreaker page, but if you use similar colors and fonts it would make the visual move between the two less jarring and bring a bit of cohesion.
- Add your Spreaker RSS feed to a widget on your Project 611 site. I think this is the link to your full feed on Spreaker:
http://www.spreaker.com/user/4437764/episodes/feedYou can use the RSS Widget to add it to Project 611:
- Add a menu item on Project 611 that takes readers to the podcast. You can create custom link menu items in your menu at Appearance > Menus:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ - Get a custom domain for your site. This one is more about ease-of-use. You can help combine these two projects by crosslinking them whenever possible. For example, at the end of your podcast, mention something like ‘If you’d like to read more about the topics discussed today, head over to our website at project611.com’. Being able to remove the ‘.wordpress’ from the middle of that makes your listeners much more likely to remember the URL and visit your site.
- Link back to your podcasts in your posts. It looks like you’re doing this now, but I would suggest linking to specific podcasts instead of your Spreaker page as a whole. Focusing your content and giving your readers and listeners meaningful resources and specific crosslinks will probably start to bridge that gap between the two.
I think you can definitely work to combine these two sites even without necessarily merging them, so I hope these tips are helpful for you!
