Combining two domains and
-
I had earlier created a blog (eg http://www.firstblog.org) which I have been using for our organisation. We recently changed the name of the organisation slightly and created a new blog (eg www. firstblog1.org).
I now want to combine the two blogs maintaining old users (subscribers) and content.I had also done some customization on a theme which has just messed up the website so I want to get back to the original theme but without losing the pages and content
I would prefer someone to help me with a number of things, until I have a perfect website. I don’t mind paying for the service.
Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
I’m happy to help you do this. First, can you list the new and the old domains just so we can make sure we’re on the same page? Currently, I only see one domain on your WordPress.com account, which is thezambiavoice.org. Please list the two domains so I can take a look!
-
@Jeremeylduvall, thanks for the help. the two domains are http://zambianvoice.org/ and http://thezambiavoice.org/. I want to kill the later then keep the former.
I then want you to help me perfect it to be presentable, friendly and secure.

Hi there,
Thanks for clarifying! So, on your WordPress.com account, I see the following:
thezambiavoice.wordpress.com with the domain thezambiavoice.org
The domain zambianvoice.org looks like it’s a self-hosted site. If I understand correctly, you would your content at WordPress.com to be displayed when users enter zambianvoice.org. Is that correct? If so, you’ll need to map it to your WordPress.com blog following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
If you would like to merge the current content at zambianvoice.org with thezambiavoice.wordpress.com, you can export the content and import it as described here:
Regarding thezambiavoice.org, I’m happy to cancel that domain from your account. However, please note, the domain is currently outside of the refund period meaning you would not receive a refund. Also, once a domain is cancelled, it is sent back the registrar. It may not be released again for purchase or it might be purchased by someone else (meaning you could lose the domain for good). If you’re sure you no longer want the domain thezambiavoice.org, please reply to confirm, and I will remove it from your site.
If I’m misunderstanding what you’re looking for, please let me know, and provide a clear explanation of what you’re looking to do!

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately my dashboard does not have Stores – My Domains Page.
What I have is Stores upgrades and Store sales which do not have My Domains page.
In settings I have stores but it is also something else.
Any other way of helping me?
On the other question, yes I want to close the first one (thezambiavoice.org) so that I only remain with the other.
But since thezambiavoice is fully paid for, is it possible to replace it with another domain name (for a different company) on the same account? Thanks

Please see below!
Unfortunately my dashboard does not have Stores – My Domains Page.
If you’re looking at zambianvoice.org/wp-admin, you will not see Store -> My Domains. This is because zambianvoice.org is currently loading a self-hosted site (not at WordPress.com). The domains page is only available at WordPress.com. So, you will need to load the page from thezambiavoice.wordpress.com. Once there, you can follow the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
On the other question, yes I want to close the first one (thezambiavoice.org) so that I only remain with the other. But since thezambiavoice is fully paid for, is it possible to replace it with another domain name (for a different company) on the same account?
Unfortunately, that’s not possible. The domain registration for thezambiavoice.org is only good for that domain so if we cancel it, the funds cannot be used towards another domain purchase. Did you still want me to cancel it from your account?
Alternatively, we could leave it on your account to expire naturally (you won’t get charged in the future). Once you map zambianvoice.org, we’ll set that as the primary domain meaning both thezambiavoice.wordpress.com and thezambiavoice.org would redirect to zambianvoice.org.
Let me know how you would like to proceed!

I have succeeded on the first step but I need help on this:
You can usually change your domain’s name servers at your registrar’s website. The exact process for updating your domain’s name servers is different for each domain registrar. Instructions for popular registrars are available here. If your registrar isn’t listed, visit their website or contact their support team for assistance. If you cannot figure this out and you need to contact support at your registrar, here is a sample email you can send:
I would like to use my domain with a WordPress.com site. In order to do this, I need to point my domain’s name servers to the following:
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COMI don’t know who is my registrar.
On the zambiavoice, I think let us leave it to expire naturally.
Thanks

Hi there,
It looks like your domain is currently registered at GoDaddy based on the public record here:
http://www.who.is/whois/zambianvoice.org
Do you remember potentially registering that domain at GoDaddy.com?
-
The website was created by someone who I am not intouch with so I would appreciate any help possible
-
Hi,
Unfortunately, I can’t help with domains registered elsewhere (I don’t have any access to your domain at GoDaddy). Perhaps you can contact GoDaddy directly and try to gain access to the account that owns the domain?

Hi Jeremey
I have been going round to finish up my task of combining our two blogs. I am not getting good help from the people that created the new site. But since you have been helpful I am thinking of keeping the old one registered with you and make customizations to make old blog (thezambiavoice.org) look like the new one (zambianvoice.org).
Can this be done? and at what cost considering I already paid something in trying to combining the two which has failed. -
Hi!
Just to clarify, the goal is to make thezambiavoice.org look like zambianvoice.org, the self-hosted site you have at the moment. Correct?
We can definitely make that happen. I took a look and the exact theme you’re using on the self-hosted site isn’t available for WordPress.com. However, we could find a similar one for you that would look great.
The main step would just be to select a theme and get it customized to look just right. I picked out three themes that I think look pretty similar to your self-hosted site:
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/chronicle/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/dynamic-news/
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/bromley/Do any of those catch your eye?

Hi,
I was just having a discussion with others and we resolved as follows:1. Our organisation is called The Zambian Voice, Therefore we want to have a website synonymous to that. It can be Thezambianvoice.com/org
2. We get rid of the two websites, but channeling all users and content to the new website.
3. Create a membership registration like we have done on http://zambianvoice.org/membership/. We would like to link all members to receive all postings.
4. Link the website to our facebook page and account, twitter
5. Allow the public to make comments on the postings like on this page http://www.lusakatimes.com/
6. We would like to use this theme: http://www.theme-junkie.com/themes/newspaper/ (we paid for membership so we can give you access.
7. Protect the site from sparm
8. optimize and make the website to attract many hits.
Please see what you can do and let us know what we have to pay.

Hi!
Please see below:
Our organisation is called The Zambian Voice, Therefore we want to have a website synonymous to that. It can be Thezambianvoice.com/org
Done! We already have thezambiavoice.org setup as the custom domain on thezambiavoice.wordpress.com.
We get rid of the two websites, but channeling all users and content to the new website.
Sounds great! The easiest way to do this is to change the name servers on zambianvoice.org to point to WordPress.com. That way, both zambianvoice.org and thezambiavoice.org will point to your WordPress.com site.
Instructions for changing the name servers on zambianvoice.org can be found here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#how-to-change-your-name-servers
Create a membership registration like we have done on http://zambianvoice.org/membership/. We would like to link all members to receive all postings.
The easiest way to achieve this would be to use the Follow Blog widget as shown here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
When users sign-up, they will automatically receive all new posts as email.
Link the website to our facebook page and account, twitter
If you setup the accounts via Publicize, we’ll automatically publish new posts you add to your site to your social networks:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
Alternatively, if you want to add the social icons to your sidebar, you can do that following the instructions here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/create-your-own-widget/
We would like to use this theme: http://www.theme-junkie.com/themes/newspaper/ (we paid for membership so we can give you access.
Themes purchased elsewhere cannot be uploaded to WordPress.com. You’ll need to use a theme listed here:
Unfortunately, we don’t have the Newspaper theme. Would either of these three themes work?
http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/chronicle/ http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/dynamic-news/ http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/bromley/
Protect the site from sparm
WordPress.com blogs are automatically protected by Akismet, our spam filter. However, you can read some other tips here:

Optimize and make the website to attract many hits.
Here are some links on how to optimize your blog for search engines. We actually do most of the work for you!
