Comet theme width
-
I have Comet theme on my weblog. It’s *narrow*, and I can’t stand the wasted space. Supposedly Comet has options for full-width, but I can’t figure out how to access it. I have two columns, but they’re part of the narrowness. Can anyone tell me what my options are? TIA.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
Thanks for getting in touch. The Comet theme has been retired, which is why you are struggling to work on the features that once worked.
Here’s a list of the free themes available for your site: https://wordpress.com/themes/free
Check those out and let me know if anything looks good or if you have other questions.

Hooo, boy. I’ve got my blog *seriously* tweaked in. Changing themes… not sure about that! Is there something comparable to the Comet? I’m nervous about how my widgets would handle a theme change.

Howdy —
I think the full-width setting you mention is part of page settings such as your “About This BLoG” page. Unfortunately, these templates cannot be applied to individual posts. If you’d like to make your pages full-width select the full-width template from the “Page Attribute” option in the editor:
You’re welcome to keep your current theme but will have to live with the current width for the sidebars and a smaller content area.
I did some digging and the Comet style theme is becoming harder to find due to it not being responsive for mobile devices. We do have a few three column themes which you’ll find in our theme repository:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/three-columnsLooking at your site Twenty Fourteen may be a great option for your site without the slider at the top.
https://wordpress.com/theme/twentyfourteenThe good news is that when changing your themes your widgets will come along for the ride, you may need to add them back from the “Inactive Widgets” area but nothing will be lost.
Hopefully, this helps you in your decision if you’d like to keep your current theme or select a new one. Let us know if you need anything else.

I can’t find a ‘page attributes’ portion of the page settings. I’m wondering if that’s not supported by Comet. But thanks.

Hi there,
If you open one of your pages in the editor and expand the Page Attributes tab you’ll see a drop down to select a full-width page template. Here’s a screenshot:
