Coming BACK to WordPress from Blogger

  • Unknown's avatar

I initially signed up with wordpress hosted and purchased a domain name through wordpress.com

I struggled a little setting up my blog (New and stupid) and found Blogger much easier. I transferred my wordpress domain to blogger correctly via the Domain tab on WordPress and waved goodbye.

Several months later and I now feel more confident. I want to use wordpress to set up a website as I feel it is the next step for me.

How do I bring firstly my domain name BACK to wordpress from blogger and secondly bring my blog with me?

Finally – all the stats I have on blogger for my blog…will I be able to transfer this data to wordpress stats too or will I loose this info.

Many many thanks. (Im not techie so step by step if possible please)! :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    re: mapping an existing domain
WordPress.com does not accept domain transfers but mapping an existing domain is possible.

Domain mapping of an existing domain URL that you already own and purchased elsewhere is not done free of charge. You will have to renew the domain name purchase where you made, it and the domain mapping purchase here, each and every year.

Mapping an existing domain costs $13. annually and a domain name purchase and domain mapping are included in the Premium upgrade bundle.

In order to map to a domain one must have an underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain blog to map from and it does not matter what that underlying .wordpress.com URL is. It does not have to match the domain URL.

If you have registered a .wordpress.com blog you log in as Admin under the exact same username account that registered the WordPress.COM blog, and as you own a domain URL already, you can see here for mapping an existing domain. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

It can take between 24 – 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What’s important during that stage is to be patient.

    Hi there,

How do I bring firstly my domain name BACK to wordpress from blogger

The good news is that your domain name dinnerpotslemondrops.com is still registered here at WordPress.com. To use it with your WordPress.com blog, you’ll just need to edit your domain’s settings so it doesn’t point to Blogger anymore.

You can manage your domain on your Domains page. There, you can select your domain name, select “Name Servers and DNS,” and then select “DNS Records” to get to your domain’s DNS records.

On that screen, you can click the “Delete” button next to the two extra DNS records for your domain. Those are the ones that say this:

It takes some time (sometimes up to 72 hours) for changes like that to take effect, so don’t worry if your domain doesn’t immediately switch back to your WordPress.com blog.

and secondly bring my blog with me?

You can use our Coming from Blogger? guide to help you Import your content from your Blogger blog. If you have any trouble with that import process, let me know!

Finally – all the stats I have on blogger for my blog…will I be able to transfer this data to wordpress stats too or will I loose this info.

There’s no way to import stats information from Blogger to WordPress.com, so you’ll only have access to those stats from your Blogger dashboard. WordPress.com will continue tracking your stats on your WordPress.com site, though. :)
