Coming back to WordPress.com!!!
-
Hi! I recently changed to dreamhost to try it out. I want to come home to WordPress.com! I have changed the DNS back to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2, etc. I also have the auth code to give to you for a domain transfer. Can you help with that? http://www.selenawolff.com
Thank you so much.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your site is hosted here on WordPress.com.
Here is part of the first line of your latest post (08.04.13
by Selena:I’ve graduated! Since I’m focusing a lot of energy…
Or do you mean that you want to find someone to host your site and move to wp.ORG? Your domain is pointing to wp.COM.
-
Domain name registration can’t be transferred to WordPress.COM, they are not set up for incoming domain name transfers. You will need to keep the domain name not registered here, but you can as you have started to do, map the domain name to your blog here

I want to have WordPress.com host my domain? I think that’s what I mean. I purchased the domain from wp.com, recently transferred it to Dreamhost. Now I want to transfer it (the domain selenawolff.com) back to wp.com.
Sorry for the confusion.
-
I’m afraid you simply can’t. You can easily point it at your Wp.com blog and use the domain name for the WP.com blog, but in terms of management and payment, it’s now at Dreamhost. That is assuming that you moved the management to Dreamhost at the same time as you pointed it to your Dreamhost blog.
-
No confusion really. Your site is hosted here on WordPress.com, as I noted above. Your domain name is pointing to your blog at wp.com. Your domain name is selenawolff.com but it is not hosted by dreamhost. It is hosted here.
I only wondered if you wanted to host your site with dreamhost.
So do you want to cancel the domain name? I don’t think that’s what you meant, is it?
Here are details about being hosted here on wp.com vs self hosted site using software from wp.org:

Well okay, there is confusion.
!!!The site is a wordpress.com blog. I don’t think she actually went to Dreamhost and paid for hosting there. (edited to add: or if she did she is not using the host—it looks like domain mapping to me…)

Oh, dear I am confused. Last week I decided to try self-hosting. I signed up for an account with Dreamhost and they offered a two-week trial with no charge. I changed the DNS to dreamhost, and put in motion a transfer of my registered domain (purchased from wp.com – selenawolff.com) to Dreamhost.
After working with the self-hosted site (using the WordPress platform) for awhile, I decided that it was too complicated for what I wanted to do. Tonight I changed the DNS back to wp. I was under the understanding that I could also bring my domain back, in other words to make wp the registrar.
I understand the difference between wp.com and wp.org. Do I need to purchase mapping or redirect in order to use my domain name with my wordpress.com blog?
-
It sounds like your domain name is working fine with WP.com. What you can’t do is change the registrar TO WP.com if you previously made Dreamhost the registrar.
-
No. You don’t need to do anything. Your domain mapping is working just fine. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is your site:
http://selenaswords.wordpress.com/
It’s up online and fully functional. Do you not see it? -
I purchased the domain from wp.com, recently transferred it to Dreamhost.

She just took advantage of an offer from Dreamhost. But now she’s back to WordPress.com. -

The domain selenawolff.com is currently registered with DreamHost, with the name servers pointing to WordPress.
Really offering to take a domain transfer from WordPress as part of a “free trial” of hosting is not very nice and borders on “sharp practice” , because as ladyjinx has found out WordPress won’t accept a transfer back in!
-
Thank you all for your input. I understand that now I’ve transferred domain name to Dreamhost as registrar, I cannot bring it back to wp.com. As long as I’m pointing the selenawolff.com to selenaswords.wordpress.com, I’m accomplishing what I need to.
Lesson learned. WordPress support, both .com and .org, has been excellent.
Thank you again!
