So I know that you’re supposed to click on ‘x comments’ to be able to view the comments on a post, and that’s how it works for a few of my posts. But when I clicked another post and did the same thing, it wouldn’t show the comment-it just said ‘1 thought’ where the comments would be. Any idea why this would be happening?

Yes it does vary from theme to theme but usually you click on “x comments” or “leave a comment” if the visitor can scroll through the posts on a site. You’ve set up your site so that visitors need to take an extra step. Where exactly are you facing this issue? Visiting your site the home page is set to show just the titles of recent posts. Clicking on a title expands the post and puts a comment box at the bottom.

If you go the ‘Interviews’ and click on the x comment, then it doesn’t show the actual comment, just that there is one.

And how would I set it up so they don’t have to take the extra step?

  • Hi there,

If you go the ‘Interviews’ and click on the x comment, then it doesn’t show the actual comment, just that there is one.

I can see the comments on both posts you have listed on that page, though the comments in this case are only pingbacks, not actual comments, i.e. they’re automatic “comments” that are generated when another post links to that specific post.

You can learn more about pingbacks here:

And how would I set it up so they don’t have to take the extra step?

There’s nothing you can do in this case, as it’s how your theme (and most WordPress themes) is designed to work: comments are displayed on the single-post view only, while any posts list, whether it’s for all posts, or just a specific category as on https://bookdragonparadise.wordpress.com/category/interviews/, only indicates whether or not there are comments on the post.

Let me know if you have any questions about this.
