Comment approval
-
Someone new to my blog has begun commenting. I approved his initial comment, as I always do (unless it’s spam, of course). The gentlemen has continued commenting, but each time WordPress requires approval for his comment. I have listed neither his email [redacted] nor domain [IP address redacted] in my moderation list or blacklist. I have no idea why WordPress is still requiring approval for his comments. This doesn’t happen to anyone else who has received my initial approval.
Any ideas? Anything I can do to correct the situation?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The number [IP address redacted] is not a domain. It’s an IP Address. Does the IP Address stay constant in comments from that one individual? I wonder if a changing IP address might produce the result that you describe.

The IP address does appear to be different for most of the comments. So that means he has a dynamic IP address, right? But isn’t that the case for most people? As I said, no one else has this problem. Once my initial approval is granted, all subsequent comments are immediately posted.
Is there anything I or perhaps WordPress can do to fix this problem?
Thanks!

You’re welcome. This is rather out of my realm, but I think that normally on a dynamic IPv4 address, such as is present in this case, only the last two groups of numbers will vary (from 0 to 255). It might make a difference if the variation is greater than that, extending to the other groups.
Also, that it might involve the IP address was just a guess on my part. The reason for the result you’re obtaining regarding that one individual may have nothing to do with IP addresses.
I’ll call for staff attention to the topic. Staff will respond here.

Was the comment waiting for approval or in your Spam folder? By the comments in this post it seems the latter.
If a legitimate commenter was initially marked as spam, the commenter might have been flagged as a spammer. To resolve this issue, they can head over to the Akismet support contact form here https://akismet.com/contact/ and enter “caught as spam” fill out the form and use the email address that they use when commenting.
(I’ve also redacted the IP# from the above discussion, as Staff will be able to see this directly on your site and doesn’t need to be posted in a public forum.)

Justjennifer, the comments are being held in the waiting for approval “folder,” not the spam folder.
-
And I should add that neither the individual’s name or email are listed in my “need approval” list in the comments settings.

Have you tried approving them?

Then you are back to what our Moderator suggested https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/comment-approval-11?replies=9#post-3000794

Hello again, perhaps I misunderstood your response to the user’s comment on the post I linked to in my earlier reply, where you said,
I just discovered this comment, which I presume was the initial comment you posted, in the spam queue. I have no idea why WordPress decided it was spam. …
Perhaps that is not the correct reply or issue. If so, I apologize for the misunderstanding and will wait for Staff to reply to this thread.

Hi there,
I will email you privately so that I can receive information on the commenter in question. If they currently have a comment being held for moderation, please don’t approve it so I can take a look.
Thanks!

Thanks @justjennifer! This could potentially be very helpful info as I troubleshoot this particular issue.

An update: the WordPress techs have replicated the problem, and apparently mine is not the only blog that is experiencing it. They are now working on a fix.
Thanks, everyone.
