Comment block not showing on posts

  I am just learning how to create posts. I have a blog page and I created two posts. However, I am unable to get the comment block to show on the posts. I’ve allowed posting through Settings>Discussion (users must be registered is NOT checked) and my posts allow comments and pings. Yet I still do not see the comment block.

  I saw something in my vast search about a single.php template and comments; however, there was not enough information for me to figure it out or even understand if that was my problem.

  Please help this newbie! Thank you.

  oh wait! when I clicked on that link, the separate post appeared with the comment block. Yet, there is no indication that there is a comment on the blog page. Since this is not a long blog, how does one know to click on the post to open it for comment?
