  I wish to remove the comment box on the pages for now and use a separate “Contact me” instead.

  I’ve unchecked all the boxes under ‘Discussion Settings’ but the comment boxes are still appearing on the pages.

  The default page for Discussion set up is here > Settings > Discussion

  We can enable or disable comments on any individual post or page by following instructions here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/
  This is not retroactive and if there are comments then you need to use the bulk edit option to close them. http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#bulk-editing-comments
  Note that closing comments will result in a phrase like “comments closed” that cannot be removed or hidden unless you have a custom design upgrade.

  Thank you timethief. I was able to remove the ‘comment box’ that for some of the pages but not all, although I unchecked the boxes as required for all of them. I will continue to work on the remaining pages.
