Comment box doesn’t show in any themes!

I’ve been looking for the solution to my non-appearing comment box at the bottom of my posts and I’ve about given up. I’m on WP.com, not WP.org, which means I have no way of inserting the missing code I’ve been reading about. Honestly, if I can’t get this resolved, I’ll have to abandon WP. And that would be a shame because it’s a really nice blogging service, other than this particular problem. But I’ve tried several different themes, gone over my Settings>Discussion options, saving them numerous times, and absolutely nothing works. I’ve scoured my 2nd edition of WordPress for Dummies and there’s nothing at all in that book about this problem. That book assumes everything works and the author shows you how to navigate through the options. Very useful, but not helpful when something doesn’t work. I consider myself pretty web savvy, having owned and operated an ebook publishing site for ten years. But this one has got me thoroughly beat. BTW, I’m currently using the Ocean Mist theme, and I tried Kubrick, the default, in hopes that would magically produce the comment box. Apparently magic won’t solve this problem. I’ve been using two new Macs and a fairly new PC to try to make changes, and that doesn’t work, either.

    My blog is easydownlinenow.wordpress.com

Thanks for any help you can give me.

You have either commenting turned off at settings > discussion (under default article settings) or when you are writing posts, comments are not being allowed under the “dicussion” section (below the text area.

    /nod to tsp.

I just left a comment on your About page, so you must have them turned off for posts as tsp suggests.

Thanks so much for a simple solution! I didn’t realize I had to okay comments each time I wrote a post. I suspect that just about every frustrated member who has asked this question on these threads made the same bonehead mistake I did. I’m not sure why WordPress wouldn’t just make it the default to accept comments. But they don’t. And now that I know this, I’m a happy, happy boy. Thank you so much. Now it’s just a matter of opening my old posts in Edit, selecting the post, then allowing comments under the discussion section below the text area. And I suspect that’s also covered in WordPress for Dummies, but I erroneously assumed that once you had comments turned on in Settings>Discussion, (which I do), you didn’t need to do anything further.

I’ve retired from college teaching, but if I still had the power, I’d give you guys an ‘A’ for the day. ^_^

I believe that once you have enabled comments on a new (published) post that wordpress will “remember” the setting after that.
