Comment box issues
-
When it comes to leaving a comment is it possible to add (email will not be shown)
or just to remove the need of someone to leave their email altogether.
I get the feeling a lot of people might be put off posting their email online. -
From your dashboard go to : Settings -> Discussions then in the “Other comment settings” uncheck the option “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail ”
-
It says so right in the comment form already. You can test this just by signing out and then attempting to leave a comment.
-
-
It says “Your email is NEVER shared” or words to that effect.
Did you Save the changes you made on the Discussion page? The Save button is down at the bottom of the page.
-
All saved two times, nothings changed. Three boxes requiring name email and website, no mention of email not being shown.
I’ll shut it all down, clear temp files and try again later. Thanks for your help. -
So, the boxes aren’t removed when you choose this setting, you just don’t need to fill them out.
-
@all: Notices re the e-mail are theme-dependent. Some themes have them, some don’t.
@pacha34: You cannot add such a notice. You can switch to another theme.

Thanks, pana. I wish I could get rid of mine or change it to say “your email is never displayed unless you piss me off, in which case it and the IP will be”
-
Also: there seems to be a thing going around where people are assuming the Leave An Email thing is deterring commenters. Virtually anyone sophisticated enough to type knows how to type in a fake address by now, not to mention that I think this assumption may reflect inflated expectations.
I’m currently averaging one comment per 700 views across my 7 blogs. How many views have you had?
-
Personally the only reason I dont mind typing out my email address and site address these days is because I get traffic like that.
Otherwise I dont think i could be bothered.
