Comment Box Option on all Posts
-
The old editor (dashboard) for creating a post is now missing the comments box in screen options. You can not undo a leave a reply (comment box) since it has disappeared from the Screen Options on Posts. If you switch over to the improved posting experience, it is there in the Advanced settings. Please fix the old posting dashboard. I would love to have it back ASAP. To avoid spammers.

We’ve not removed the discussion or comments modules from the /wp-admin/ post editor.
While in the post editor, would you please select your Screen Options and make sure the Discussion and Comments modules are checked? (example)

I did check within the Screen Options, but on this new post the Comments box did not exist.

Hi there,
Went into your most recent post and found the comment option to be present but unchecked: (screenshot.)
If you were previously viewing the screen options on an unpublished post, the Comment module does not appear there, only because comments cannot be created on unpublished posts.
If you’ll go into your screen options now, on a published post, you can turn on the Comments module and it will appear by default where available going forward.

Thank you for the quick reply Alex.
Is there any way for it to be in the screen options during draft (unpublished) mode, like it used to be?
It is available in the new format (improved posting experience) under advanced settings. So why can’t it still be on the old Dashboard post format?
Again, thank you for your help. -
I don’t believe the Comments module was in screen options on new posts in /wp-admin/ before. This screenshot of Screen Options in “Add New Post” in our support document is from 2008 and there’s no Comments module there either:

It is available in the new format (improved posting experience) under advanced settings
The Discussion module options are available in the new editor while both creating or editing posts. But the Comment module is not present at all in the new editor.
The action you requested, to be able to remove the “leave a reply” box, is controlled by the Discussion module– not the Comments module. This is available while creating new posts in the /wp-admin/ editor.
