Comment display on Hemingway Rewritten

    Hello!

I’m trying to figure out how to put a comment box beneath my Sharing area under each post. Right now, the only way somebody can get to an empty comment box to type a comment is to actually click on Comment at the top of my post then scroll down through all the comments to the bottom to the empty comment box. Awkward. How can I get the empty comment box front and center with no clicks? I just have the “basic” (i.e. free) version of the theme.
    Thanks!
    AGMA

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there. I assume you’re talking about your home page?

The home page displays a feed of all your posts and it does not display comment boxes. Comment boxes are only available on single-post views. There’s no setting you can select to change this.

The only theme I know of that displays a comment are on the front page is the P2 theme which is designed to function like a forum.

    Hello!
No, not my home page. I’m talking about the page that each blog post appears on. At the top of each post it has the number of comments for that specific post; you can click on comments and it takes you to all the comments people have made. To write a new comment, you need to scroll all the way down to the bottom for an empty comment box.

I’d like to have an empty comment box at the end of each post (beneath the Share Me section where somebody can click Facebook or Pinrest buttons and where the Like button is located) so people don’t have to scroll through all the comments unless they want to. Any ideas?
    Thanks!!

  • Thanks for clarifying.

Again, that is normal – most themes work that way (and just by the way, you don’t “need” to click on the comments link; on the single post view comments and the comment box are always visible and the link is just a shortcut to get to them.)

The only way it might be possible to reposition the comment box is by editing the theme’s CSS. You will need the Custom Design upgrade to do that.

You can post your question in the CSS customisation forum for info on if this is possible and what code will be needed to make this change: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform

    I’ve got a workaround, but it’s a bit “desperate”.

If you look at that link in “Comment” at the top of the post, you’ll see that it’s a “page jump” bringing your visitor to the top of the comments area.

Potentially you could add a page jump in your post text to bring your visitors to the comment box by first making sure your comments are in reverse chronological order (newest first-oldest at the bottom) and then leaving the first comment on every post containing the page jump unique identifier. When you create the page jump link in your post, you’ll need to add the full post URL and then the unique identifier.

Like I said, a bit “desperate”, but it seems to work. ;-)
