Comment form changed

The comment form has been changed, and it is causing some problems for my readers.

The biggest problem is that my readers have reported (and I verified) that clicking on a post automatically jumps to the comment section at the bottom, skipping the entire post.

In addition, the procedure for posting comments as an unregistered wordpress user is very unclear.

Is it possible to go back to the old form? Thank you.

    Erik

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I admit that I am not clear about what your issue is. The only comment box change I observe on my own blogs is the removal of the log-in from Twitter and from Facebook buttons.

Note: Unless you use the P2 theme which is a Twitter-like theme. The front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.

In a new blog one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

I have visited your blog but require more information. Are you referring to the comment boxes that display below posts and pages when the post title or “leave a comment link” is clicked and the entire post/page is displayed on it’s own page? Or are you referring to a contact form? Please post a link to what you are referring to and expand so we Volunteers can help you.

    Thank you for your help.

The problem is in the new login form at the bottom of the comment box. If a user is not logged into wordpress at the time they attempt to read a post the screen jumps down to this login form.

I do not want to require people to login to wordpress in order to post, and my settings appear to be set for this.

The login form used to start with option tabs directly below the comment box that are not present any longer. Instead, there is a (very small) option to “change account” that apparently allows posting with simply a name and an email addy, which is what I would like to be the default.

I hope this is enough information – I cannot think of what else to say.

    I do have more information:

I checked a machine that, to my knowledge, has never been logged in to wordpress. Below the comment box at the end of each post it says this:

Fill in your details below or click an icon to log in:
(followed by icons for wordpress, twitter, and facebook)

On a machine that has been logged in to wordpress in the past, there is a different form directly below the comment box. In small letters off to the right it says

    Change Account

Below that there is a wordpress logo and a pair of login boxes, apparently prompting me to login with my wordpress user name.

This would not be a problem if, when it is in this state, it did not automatically jump down to the bottom of the post in order to get force a log in. Once again, those who have apparently never logged in to wordpress do not have this problem – only those who are reading without logging in.

I hope this helps. It has been mentioned by two readers and I can duplicate it as well.

When you visit a post and are pushed down to the comment form what’s the full URL in your address bar? Does it end in #comments?

Can you snap a screenshot of the trouble area with the log in bit that you’re referring to and post a link to that here? These details should help us narrow this down for you. Thanks!
