Comment notifications not coming through to my email

Why am I not receiving comment notifications via email? I’ve checked settings and they are OK. I’ve checked my spam folder, and nothing is going there. This is happening on my blog at http;//sherreymeyer.com, and this post is a good example of comments on the post for which I received no notification: http://sherreymeyer.com/2014/03/31/tips-for-self-editing-narrative-nonfiction/. Any tips and help will be appreciated.

I recently tested this out, and I received an email notification immediately after a comment was posted with settings identical to yours. Did the comment notifications eventually appear in your inbox? Please let me know if not, and I’ll be happy to investigate further!

Thanks for the quick response. The notices never did appear. The post I referred you to actually received comments I wouldn’t have known about if I hadn’t gone there to check. Thanks for checking further. I appreciate your time and effort.

Hmm…that’s odd. Were they caught by the spam filter before you moderated them and replied? Have you received any comment notifications since that time?

Not for this blog. I have another which is working fine. I don’t moderate comments to my blogs, and I did not check spam filter before replying to them. I will do that if this happens again. Is there anything peculiar to the Fusion theme that would create this problem?

There shouldn’t be anything in particular with the theme. I tested out the comments with the Fusion theme, and I received an email notification. Can you let me know if this issue pops up again where you fail to receive notification of a new comment? As of right now, it appears to be working again.

Jeremey, I have sad news. Yesterday I decided to “test” my comment notification, and I didn’t receive any notice to a comment I left on http://sherreymeyer.com/2014/03/31/tips-for-self-editing-narrative-nonfiction/.
Then I did a little investigating. For several weeks in February and March I wasn’t actively online as much as usual due to my husband’s back surgery. Yesterday I went to look and I was amazed at the number of spam comments I found on old, old, old posts that were posted in February or March 2014. Could these have had an impact in some way on my ability to receive my notifications?
Anyway, the gremlin is back and I don’t think I caught it!

You shouldn’t receive notifications on comments that you are leaving on your own blog post. You will only receive comments when other readers leave comments on your blog posts. Does that make sense?
The spam comments shouldn’t be an issue! You won’t receive a notification from comments that are held in spam either.

Well, duh, and well said, Jeremey! What was I thinking?????? And I do think that makes a **** of a lot of sense. Also understand about the spam.
Putting up new post later today on this blog, so we’ll see what comes, goes, or doesn’t!

Ah, Jeremey, you’re too kind! And here I am to end your week with another no show on behalf of the notifications. My newest post (finally up last evening), http://sherreymeyer.com/2014/04/10/is-memoir-writing-always-a-healing-agent/, has six “likes” and three comments this morning. I rec’d no notifications regarding any of these. Bummer! Fortunately, knowing this happens, I’m consistent and persistent about checking the post. So, what d’ya think?

Hmm…still looking into troubleshooting this one. Have you been receiving other emails from WordPress.com like normal? I’m just trying to determine if somehow these emails are getting caught by your spam or junk filter or trapped in another inbox somewhere.

Jeremey, I have a second blog, http://sowingseedsofgrace.wordpress.com, and in checking it appears my settings for discussion are the same as the one we’re working on. Those notifications come through A-OK. And for a few years the notifications on this one worked as well. I’ve checked my inbox for problems and nothing is hitting my email spam folder. I am using the same email address for both blogs. And yours are definitely getting through to me at that email address. I’ll continue to monitor when I have a new post up so I don’t miss any comments. Thanks for your help.

That’s interesting. If the other blog is setup identically, you should be receiving email notifications from both. I went ahead and reset the option to be notified of blog comments hoping that this triggers the system to start sending notification emails for comments. Can you let me know if you notice any change in delivery?

I retract my word of thanks, Jeremey! Posted today, and no notifications of comments coming through. It’s a good thing I’ve become habitual about checking my blog. Do you have even a remote idea of what could be going on?
