Comment on a comment

    Hi everybody
I’m searching for a definition, I mean, an expression for the following:

If someone can write a comment to a post, another one can write a comment to this comment. so far, so good.
But if there starts a real discussion and up to 30 people write a comment, they often have to write, e.g. “@ firstcomment: I mean this and that” or “@ thirdcomment: I don’t mean this or that”.
I already saw some blogs where you therefor can have another category: saying, that you want to comment exactly e.g. the 16th comment -> and your comment is shown on the blog directly under the 16th comment.

What is the right expression for this? And is it possible on wordpress too?

    ( like a “subcomment”)

I think the term you want is “threading”. And no, we can’t do it here at wp.com.

We do not have “threaded comments” at wordpress.com. There is a “threaded comments” plugin for wordpress.org bloggers. The problem for asking for this feature is that this is a multi-user blogging platform so whatever plugin may be installed like Akismet applies to all blogs. There are no individual plugin installations, except on the blogs of VIP hosted bloggers.

I don’t know the official term, but it is comment threads where you can reply either to a specific comment, or just make a general comment that is not part of a thread. It isn’t available here at wordpress.com unfortunately.
