Comment on a WordPress comment system not publishing
-
for some reason, my comment is not being published on http://fieldofteams.csnbayarea.com/2014/01/07/watch-hunter-pence-push-a-car-up-a-hill/#respond
There is a box for comment entry (some blogs don’t have comments enabled), I enter in my comment, but then the next window says that WordPress can’t enter my comment.
And I checked my whole comment, not one bad or even so-so word in there…

Here is what I tried to add as a comment:
Pence is a fast player but if you look at his career, his SB had been declining with each season over his career until it jumped up last season. So I would credit the Giants more for taking advantage of his speed when there is a high odds opportunity to steal a base, and particularly Roberto Kelly, our firstbase coach, who helped a lot of our young prospects steal a lot of bases when he was a manager down there, and similarly helped Randy Winn go from a low to a high SB% in his last seasons with us. Pence’s 22 SB is not only the best of his career, but also his highest SB% of his career too, only caught 3 times. He was only caught twice in 2011 and 2012, but only stole 8 and 5 bases respectively too.
Thanks for the video, amazing!

If this is not your blog, you may not be able to do anything.
I can post on other blogs, but not on the blog you are asking about.
So, I think they have something turned off in the back ground which does not allow comments.

This is the exact message I got on the next page:
Sorry, this comment could not be posted.

Every blogger VIP hosted blogger controls who can post comments and who cannot. We cannot help you here with any issues on Powered by WordPress.com VIP hosted blogs, most of which require a membership to comment. http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/

Thanks for the comment luvsiesous2000.
Usually, when a blog does not allow comments, there would either be no comment box at all, or there would be a line that says something like, “This post does not accept comments.”
In this case, there are icons asking for comments, and not only that, there is a box at the bottom for comments, plus instructions on how to comment, plus a button that says “Post Comment”.
I just tried to post “OK” and that failed too.
So I understand that some blogs turn off commenting, but then the blogging system would then remove all icons and such related to commenting, not make it seem like you can comment, only to deny you.
That’s why I think there is a problem with WordPress, but when I tried to find a way to complain about it, this was the only option I was provided. I consider this a message in a bottle, I don’t expect to get a reply from WordPress, hope that maybe someone in the community can answer it, but expect to never get an answer. I’m more interested in the process now.

Thanks for the comment timethief.
Well, that’s still a problem with WordPress. I get that maybe only a member can enter in something. According to that website, I am a member, it gives the impression that I can comment on their content by providing me all the mechanisms for commenting. If I am not allowed to comment because I’m not a member, then why include this phrase on the page: “You are posting as obsessivegiantscompulsive. (Log Out)” It should say “You are not a member, you cannot comment”.
I even logged out and logged back into WordPress. At that point of log out, to comment, it says I either need to log in or register. At this point, there is no comment box, only a sentence asking me to log in or register. The register page only asks that I register with WordPress.
But I’m already registered with WordPress, so I relogged back in. Again, same formatting, a comment box available, I can type in the comment box, there is the button that says “Post Comment”, I can do everything to comment except for getting the system to accept my comment.
And just to be clear, I’ve been working in computers for 35 years now, I blog regularly on my blog, comment there with readers of my blog, I go to dozens of other blogs to comment, I have used WordPress’s commenting system on many other blogs, I go to regular media sites to comment, and the only site as aggravating as this website is SBNation’s where like here, I see my graphic up top showing that I’m logged into their system, but when I go to their commenting system at the bottom, it acts like I’m not logged in. But at least there, I can go up, log out, log in, go back to my original site and refresh, and finally I can comment. When I did it at this site, I’m stuck at my original problem.

I cannot help you. If you succeeded in becoming a member of a VIP hosted blog, then you have the email you were sent and it will have the contact information on it.

I understand that you can’t help me. I had no expectations that you could help me. I’ve been a programmer. I’ve worked in computers for a long time, I know it’s hard to get the big corporate machine to fix things, they can’t devote employees to reading messages from everybody because sometimes people think that the disk drive mechanism is a cup holder.
All I’m asking and hoping is that WordPress fixes their irrational software.
If I need to be a VIP member in order to comment, I’m OK with that. I’m OK if I’m excluded from commenting there. But that website does not have any functionality on their website (believe me, I wasted a lot of time looking after you mentioned it) to allow you to be a “VIP” member. It only asks me to be a register WordPress member. I am.
All I’m asking WordPress is to not make it appear like I’m able to comment there by providing a box to comment, words to the effect that I can comment there, plus a button that says “Post Comment”, then don’t allow me comment. That’s just illogical.
In addition, if special VIP hosted blogs need special membership, then there should be some explanation somewhere so that I (and other non-VIP members) who are tricked into commenting there when you need to be a member don’t waste their time trying to figure out what is wrong. Just don’t provide any mechanism for me to comment on the page if I need to be a member.
And all that is caused by WordPress, not the VIP hosted blog, they are not to be blamed for this lack of functionality or common sense on the the part of WordPress. This is all programmed by WordPress to function this way, I’m assuming that this was a mistake and wanted to bring it up to WordPress so that they can fix this but there is no other mechanism other than this community.
