Comment reply by email

The comment reply by email facility worked for me when I tried it.

    DT Cryptic No 25915

I have several contributors who are set up as authors and when one of them tried to use it he reported that it had not worked. Is it limited to the owner of the blog?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Did they receive the email that a new comment had been left?

Yes, the email was definitely received, and here is the header of the reply he sent:

    Date: 29/04/2009 20:30:12
To: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
Subject: Re: [Big Dave's Telegraph Crossword Blog] Comment: "Toughie No 137"

I have tried, without success, sending to that address myself with the same subject line. I did not receive the original email as that went to the author of the post. As it was a first-time comment from this user, I authorised the comment – could that have made any difference?

I think this is an excellent new facilty and it would be well worthwhile ironing out any teething problems. I have only been blogging for three months and already realise that I made the right choice of host.

To be honest I’ve not tried the comment by email feature in a long time. Maybe now that the comment has been approved he can try again and see what happens this time?

I think you misunderstood – I had approved the comment before he tried to reply. I will get him to try it again on another comment and report back.

I looked through a lot of forum entries on this facility before posting, and it seems that most, if not all, came from blog owners. I was wondering if anyone had experience of it working, or not, for users with Author status.
