Comment saying my blog was hacked

  • Unknown's avatar

    I got a comment today that said this: “This site has been hacked by lynx.” Should I be worried about this? HELP! I still seem to have full access to my site, so I don’t know what this is talking about…

    Your blog is at WordPress.com. It is EXTREMELY unlikely it was, in fact, hacked. There are trolls who like to leave comments like that, though, in between rounds of having sex with farm animals. If you’re worried, change your password, as passwords are the only way I’ve ever seen a WP.com blog get hacked. If you can change it, that’s pretty clear you haven’t been hacked.

    Thank you so much! I did change my password; now I can breathe!!

    @rain – LOL – please don’t spread rumours about my sheep. Thank-you.

    I was just visiting your site – it was taking a long time to download, and when I viewed the url to see what was loading, in between trishsdiary and wordpress.com was the word “files”. Like trishsdiary dot files dot wordpress or something to that affect.

    I was there for a while and the site never did finish loading before I left; as soon as I saw that I closed out.

    I’ve not been able to recreate that at my own blog, it’s always been dissfunktional dot wordpress dot com and the rest of the URL for any post.

    Is she really ok?

    I didn’t notice the files thing. It took a long time to load here too, but that might be because a whack of posts as far back as early October get loaded all at once.

  • Yes, example.files.wordpress.com is normal.

    All of the “hacked” wordpress.com blogs we hear about turn out to be one of three things:

    1. The owner had a poor password which was guessed.

    2. The owner’s email account (typically gmail) was compromised by someone who used it to reset their WordPress.com account password.

    3. The owner added an administrator to their blog, who then demoted or removed the owner.

    Avoid those three things and you’ll be fine.

    *blushing* I’m new…and didn’t know it would take so long to load if so many pages were showing. Thanks! :-)

    You can set the number of post that show on a page by going to options > reading. If you have quite a few images or videos, it may be best to limit it to maybe 5 or 6. People can always get to your older posts by clicking on the “older posts” link at the bottom of the pages.
