I am using the Benevolence theme and just noticed that the instructions for someone to make a comment are not working…the HTML code shows. There is not place for a person to enter email address or name. It will, however, accept the comment.

Feel free to go and see: http://www.iseestories.wordpress.com

Anyone have any ideas of something I can do to repair this?

    Many, many thanks.

Have you logged out and looked?

When YOU are logged into WP.com, the system knows it’s you and will fill in the information automatically. If you log out then the email and name fields should appear.

That was a great suggestion…so I tried it. And I tried moving from Safari to Firefox while I was at it.

But, sadly, the same problem exists no matter what.

The text of the error appears at the bottom of this message.

Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.
(By the way, could you see the message above when you visited the site?)

Line and paragraph breaks automatic, e-mail address never displayed, HTML allowed: <b>

I left a test comment when I was signed into wordpress on your blog. Now I will sign out and try again from the net.

Edit: That was useless I came in from the net and wordpress automatically signed me in … don’t know how to help you …
If you have set up your comment moderation correctly then all you can do at this point is to wait for staff to pick up this forum thread or send in a feedback.

Well, I logged out of wp.com and left a comment on your blog.

Just for good measure I took a screenshot too. :)

This is what I saw using Firefox 1.5.0.7 and the comment appeared fine.

    Which browsers did you use?

    I’m confused!

    Collin

EDIT: Safari and Firefox, ignore that! As you’re using Safari I’m guessing you’re on a Mac. Unfortunately I am not blessed with a Mac and am using Firefox on Windows. :(

Just a thought, have you got anything (Javascript for example) disabled on your browsers?

I am wondering if it your browser that’s causing a problem.

Thanks, timethief. I did receive your comment…but it looks weird, doesn’t it?

Regarding the set up of comment moderation, I just clicked the option that said “comment author must give name and email address” under the discussion tab under options. Is there anything else?

I’m going to look into how to send a feedback to staff. I’ve never done that…

Thanks to you and Collin for leaving comments as tests.

Thanks, Collin. I tried it on both Safari and Firefox. Everything else works…including my other wordpress blogs, so I wouldn’t think it was a problem. I’m going to try a different theme, just for kicks…maybe it is in Benevolence…

    thanks much.

My face is red…I just got a note from the wordpress support group…a very, very nice note. It turns out that what I thought was an error is part of the design. Leave it to me to think something technical is a mistake!

Thanks to Cornell and timethief for assisting me. And thanks to worpress support for being so polite.
