Comment Spam and Reporting it to WordPress

I have noticed that I occasionally get comment spam from other wordpress blogs. Is marking it as spam in my dashboard equivalent to reporting it to WP or should I make a separate report?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Check the actual blog, and if it is a true spam site here at wordpress.COM, then use “report as spam” selection from the “blog info” menu in the grey menu bar at the top of your screen, and then also mark it as spam so that Akismet can learn.

Do be careful though when marking things as spam. Make sure it is actual spam.

Could you post a link to one of the sites here that you believe is spam?

Before I start naming names, let me describe what I am talking about and make sure I am not being to quick to judge. Technically it probably isn’t Spam, per se, but they are typically sites that seem to violate the terms for WordPress hosted sites.

I get a bunch of these, usually in the form of a ping. I follow the link the ping and it is often a something.wordpress.com site that consists of links to other blogs that have been clearly scraped with an automated process with no common theme or original content. In most cases the blog still has all the default language on it like “Your blog title goes here!”.

Those are against the TOS here and if wordpress finds them, they will be toast. If someone turns them in they will be toast.
