Comment spam without even publishing my blog

    Hi there.

I got a copy of WordPress running on my own webserver. I did basic configuration to the page already, customized the design and installed some plugins, namely Counterize, EZPZ One Click Backup and NextGEN Gallery. The backup plugin has been there for some days and the others have been installed right away about one month ago. The page itself has not been published yet as I am still working on it, so nobody can actually know about it. How is it possible that I already get spammed with comments? Is there any function built into wp I may not know about which can lead to this or is it the directory I chose, the blog is located in the directory wp so it may be easy to guess the URL, but is that a common technique? There had been spam messages for 2 days until I got my hands on WP-Ban which hopefully will stop this. But it does not solve the riddle about my blod being discovered before even being anywhere near to being published. Any hints about what’s going on there are welcome.

    Cheers
    Martin

Sorry, you need to head over to http://wordpress.ORG/support/ as that is where self-hosted wordpress blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG are supported.

These forums are for those hosted here on the wordpress.COM free hosting service and things here work differently.

If you are not familiar with the differences, see this support document: http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ .

    Hi
wordpress.COM is its own site, no plugins here.

Sounds like you have a webserver with wordpress.ORG installed.
