comment visibility
-
Hey there. Getting things set up on a private blog. Comments don’t seem to be visible on blog post though which is necessary for open discussion. I’ve looked through all of the settings and everything else seems to be in order. Is it the theme? I am using SPUN
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You must have disabled them. Comments are open on your posts and pages by default. You can enable and disable comments on WordPress.com blogs on this page Dashboard > Settings > Discussion
That is where you set up defaults for comments and other comment options http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/Enable and Disable Comments for Published Posts and Pages
https://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-and-disable-comments-for-published-posts-and-pages/Enable and Disable Comments for Future Posts and Pages

I just checked all of those things before I asked the question. Went back and double checked and comments are in fact enabled.
Anything else that I’d be missing?

When we need Staff help with issues Volunteers cannot resolve like this one we type modlook into the sidebar tags on our forum threads. I did that for you. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then we subscribe to this thread so we are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Hi there,
Your theme hides comments when you first open a post. You need to click on the little speech bubble below the post to expand the comments section:

Hey there–thank you. I’ve been playing around a bit so I did find the speech bubble. What I have noticed is that if I am just looking at my site full screen on my computer the comments are not there. If I look at it in the reduced screen so that I can get to the tablet view then the little plus signs show up that allow you to open the comments or the widgets. Is that just peculiar to the theme? If I’m looking at the site on my phone the comments are available too. But if I’m on my computer full screen they aren’t and there are no little plus sign bubbles to expand. Seemed sort of weird?

You should see the speech bubble on your computer as well. I took that screen shot I provided above on my computer at full screen size.
The background colour you selected for your site is almost the same shade as the icons, though, so depending on your monitor’s colour settings that might be why it’s not visible to you. It could also be browser-related, so can you please let me know what browser you’re using, and also check if it makes a difference if you use a different browser.

Oh HO! I do see them….very blended into the background. I will mess around with changing the background color. In the other views the comment number and + sign are in black which is why they show up better. :) Awesome. I bet because of the angle of my monitor they just didn’t register with my eyes. Bleh. Thanks a bunch!!

Excellent :)
Not trying to sell an upgrade to you, but I should mention that with the Premium Plan you’ll be able to control the colour more precisely, should you wish to make those icons more prominent without changing the entire colour scheme of the site. This is not possible on the free or Personal plans.

No problem–this is good to know and I will keep it in the back of my brain. We’re in experimental mode so for now what I’ve got works for our purposes. Thanks so much for the help. I just needed an extra set of eyes!!
