Commenting

Hello – I’m having trouble commenting on other bloggers pages when I’m signed into WordPress. It asks me to fill out my email address and url, which it never did before. Then, after I fill them out and click ‘post comment’ it takes me to re-sign in with my password. This happens every single time I comment somewhere. Is it because of my Browser? I use Brave. Any help you can offer so I can comment without re-signing in would be appreciated. Thanks, Lori

  • Hi there,

This is most likely browser-related, and specifically cookie-related – what you’re describing indicates that the cookie we use to detect whether or not you’re logged in isn’t working correctly.

It’s possible the cookie has simply expired, so try clearing all WordPress.com cookies from your browser, then log back in.

Let me know if that doesn’t make any difference.

Hello – Thanks for the suggestion.
I cleared cache in my browser, and I’m still having to sign in for comments. I tried to find a way to clear cache in WordPress, but I couldn’t find one. The online tutorial said to clear cache through plugins or hosting provider, and I have neither of those on my dashboard. In fact, my dashboard doesn’t even say, “dashboard” at the top like in the tutorial. Is there anything else that can be done? Or, am I missing something? Thanks for any help you can offer

  • Hi @loridr,

My colleague suggested that you clear your browser’s cookies and cache. Here’s how: https://wordpress.com/support/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache

It’s not necessary to clear your site cache, and likely the tutorials that you were reviewing were related to open-source WordPress.org, rather than WordPress.com specifically. You can learn about the differences here: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

    Hope that helps!

Hi metabreaker – I wrote that I DID clear my cache and cookies in my browser but it didn’t help. That’s why I looked up to see if I needed to clear them elsewhere.

If you’d like to see that I cleared my cache in my browser, I can send you a screenshot.

Once again, clearing cache and cookies in my browser isn’t helping the situation. I still have to re-sign in every time I make a comment on a blog.

    Am I missing something?

  • Thanks for clarifying. Please try the following:

And please let me know if using another browser helps with this.

    Thank you for the suggestions.

So, is there no way I can comment like normal in WordPress unless I switch browsers? I prefer Brave and use it as my default browser. It runs smoothly for me with other websites I frequent, and it moves quite fast.

Is there a way WordPress can be compatible with Brave (for my comments)? I’d like to avoid having to switch back and forth between browsers.

  • We haven’t ruled out Brave yet, this is just to test to see if you have any trouble under other browser.

If you let us know if you do or don’t, that will help us to further narrow down the problem.

    Okay, thank you.

So, I tested it in Microsoft Edge and in Firefox. I had no problems with commenting in those. Seems like it must be Brave. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for working with me.

  • Hm, yeah, it seems like Brave then.

In Brave’s settings, try allowing all cookies: https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360050634931-How-Do-I-Manage-Cookies-In-Brave-

You might need to log out of WordPress.com at https://wordpress.com/me and then log back in before you notice any difference.

Hello. Just wanted to let you know that I allowed all cookies, and it appears to be working now. Thank you for the suggestion. If I have anymore trouble, I’ll let you know. Have a great week! 🙂
