Commenting and privacy
-
I started a thread about this in the support forum, but now think it is better suited here. I understand that there is no easy answer, so I’d simply like to start discussion. Here are some of my own thoughts.
I think that perhaps a few changes could be made to clarify to both commenters (who may be visiting using other types of account such as facebook, twitter, or Google+) and bloggers that the administrators of wordpress sites can be sent personal details of commenters. This could include a simple message stating this when someone is about to post a comment.
Also, perhaps administrators of sites could be given the option to either hide this information if the comment is approved, or to make it visible if marked as spam. That way, it can be used where appropriate, while allowing a bit more privacy to the blogging community in general.

That thread is already tagged for a Staff response so this thread is redundant and will be closed.

I would prefer that the other thread be closed. I feel that this one is much more constructive.

Frankly, I don’t need such information. I moderate all comments. I use Google search and I assume that all bloggers know how to use it to do searches like username searches.

…in some ways. In the other one, I was more unsure about the issue, and my views have changed slightly now. I have tried to make some suggestions in this one rather than pointing out things I’m not happy about.
