Commenting issues

When I click to comment on someone else’s blog, I get an error and it wants me to log in to an old email address that is no longer associated with my account or gravatar or whatever. And when I try to switch the username/email to the one I currently use, it won’t log me in….help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

“An active access token must be used to comment.” I get this error sometimes too!

No my user account is “anastasiachansen” with the email “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” but it keeps wanting me to log in with my old email that I haven’t used on wordpress in years!

    Hi Anastasia,

Can you give me a link to a post you tried to comment on where that happened?

Also, can you describe the exact steps you took when you tried to comment? For example, were you already logged in to a WordPress.com account? Where did you click, and what information did you enter when you commented?

That will help me investigate this for you.

Hi. So I am logged into my wordpress account. If I want I could write and publish and article right now. At the top of my screen is the black bar with options like “my sites” and “reader” and my little profile picture head. If I click on “Reader” and click on an article of someone I am not following and “View original” when I try to comment I get directed to a new screen that says:
    “Are you Anastasia ?
You are being asked to login because [email] is used by an account you are not logged into now.
By logging in you’ll post the following comment to [blog]:
    Lovely!”

And then I obviously cant log in because the email it prompts me for I haven’t used in years. And it won’t let me log in with the email I am currently using/is associated with my gravatar/blog/everything.

However if I try to comment directly from the reader it works…sometimes…but sometimes I get the error “An active access token must be used to comment”

    Hi Anastasia,

Can you please try logging in at http://gravatar.com/ and check to see if the email address that’s popping up is the second one listed on your Manage Gravatars page?

If that’s the one that’s causing problems, you can click on that email address and then click the link “Delete this email address” to unlink it from your account.

If that doesn’t clear up the problem, please let me know!

There is only one email address. And it is the one I am currently using. Nothing else to delete.

  • Unknown's avatar

Hm, ok. Can you please tell me what email address you’re seeing? (You can put the email address in your reply and it will be hidden from everyone except staff.) That will help me keep investigating.

I keep seeing (email visible only to moderators and staff)

I think I used it on my first blog which was forevers ago and I haven’t used it since

    My old blog was fountaindefotos.wordpress.com

is there any way I can link that blog up with my current one so that they are on the same account?

    Hi Anastasia,

Do you enter the link to that old blog while you’re commenting? If so, that will require you to log in to the account linked to that blog. (That account is linked to the email address you mentioned.)

If you’d like to move that blog so it’s linked to your account anastasiachansen, instead, you can do that by logging in to the other account and following our guide to Transferring Your Blog to Another WordPress.com User or Account.
