Commenting on blogs

  Hi. I’ve just created my first blog and I’m rather a computer dimwit so I’ve tried to make it as simple as possible. I’ve started writing a couple of posts but can’t see where people would add a comment if they wanted to. There’s no comment button (can’t see how to enter one) but there is an EDIT button which seems as if anyone reading my blog could edit my post!!?? Help please. Thanks

  Hi there! The “Edit” button is viewable only by you, so not to worry — no one else can access your dashboard.

  Your site is currently set to private, meaning no one can view/read your site. Right now, if they visit your URL, viewers will see a log-in screen/notice that the site is private.

  You can change these settings by going to My Site > Settings > General, and on that page, scroll down to the “Privacy” section and change it to “Public.” (Don’t forget to save your changes!)

  Once the site is public, you can manage your comment settings in Settings > Discussion.

  Hi. Thanks for replying. I did have it set to public but I’m currently editing it so I’ve changed it to private. When it was public though I accessed it on my sons computer to show him & it had the edit button & when I clicked on it I was able to change my text!? There was nowhere to leave a comment that I could see. I could make it public again for you to take a look at if that’s possible?

  When you viewed your site on your son’s computer, were you logged in?

  I could make it public again for you to take a look at if that’s possible?

  No — no need to make it public right now :) Try this: view an individual post, and scroll to the bottom. Do you see a section labeled “Leave a Reply,” with a comment box underneath that says “Enter your comment here…”?

  Also note that readers will not see the comment area for posts on your homepage — only on individual posts.
