Commenting on other people's blogs when you manage two of your own.

Is it possible to change who you are commenting as on other people’s blogs? I have two blogs but everytime I try and post comments it defaults to only one of the blogs. I would like to be able to switch between the two depending on the theme/topic of blogs I am posting on.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your name can link to only one blog at a time. That’s the one set as Primary Blog on your dashboard Profile page. You can change it when you want to and change it back after you comment.

I’d like to clarify this a little more too please. I have several blogs, under different names because some are personal and some are family or organisational. Several are wordpress.com and two are wordpress.org.

When I visit other blogs, both wordpress.com and wordpress.org, sometimes it allows me to choose which name I comment under, and sometimes it doesn’t, and simply says I cannot post under that name.

I’d really like to understand this please. I would have thought that the person commenting can choose any name they wish. If a WordPress blog is set so that an email is required, I would hope that any valid email would be acceptable.

Can someone explain to me please if there is a setting that means that wordpress.com blogs can only be commented on by wordpress.com users? I can’t see it. If not, why do wordpress.com and wordpress.org blogs behave in this way sometimes? It is extremely frustrating for a piece of software to tell me I can’t log in when I sometimes can and without telling me why. If I understood why, I might be able to manage things better.

    Thanks

Not if the email you are using to comment is attached to an account in the WordPress.com system.

Well I don’t have it in the WordPress system, and I think mostly it is a unique email address – in fact it must be, otherwise the system would break down. So that can’t be the explanation, but thanks for taking an interest.

Just to check, is there any way I can check if my email address is in the WordPress system, and take it out if I don’t need it in there (i.e. it’s not attached to a WordPress.com blog)?

Here you are, IN the WordPress.com system. Any email that has ever been used to register at WordPress.com is in the WP.com system and if you try to comment on a WP.com blog using that email, you will be forced to log in to prove that you are in fact that person and not just an impersonator who somehow found the email address. It’s a security feature.

Hi raincoaster, thanks for that. My problem is that I seem sometimes (1) unable to choose some emails and (2) it even stops me using emails that have never been associated with a WordPress blog (as far as I can remember).

Is there any way I can check if one of my emails is in the system?

Perhaps the only other way is to set up a brand new email account and see if I get blocked from using that.

    That’s a good idea.
