Commenting on the Sketch Theme
-
I have changed my theme from Book Lite to Sketch. Is there no way to comment on a Sketch theme post without clicking on the title of the post? Also no notation of number of comments?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
No. Sketch does not appear to show that information. I tried it on my test blog with several different settings.

Thank you kokkieh for testing it out. I thought maybe it was just me and I had missed something. Kind of a shame, it’s a great theme but I think people will find it strange and it will confuse people. Difficult to comment on. Thanks again.

If I had to guess I’d say aesthetic considerations beat functionality in this case. As the theme is optimised for visual content all the extras have been trimmed down to the bare minimum, so there’s nothing to distract from the images. Actually many themes don’t allow you to comment without opening the post, but I can understand it would be disorienting if you were using a theme that allowed that. People can still comment from the Reader, though. That’s not affected by theme.

Hi kokkieh. Yes, and it was the aesthetic considerations that called to me.. :) BUT I didn’t even think about comments. I love the theme and I am going to give it a go. If my regular readers want to comment, I think they will find a way. Also, on my sidebar I used the text widget to tell readers to click on the post title to comment. I did check on the Reader! Thanks again, you have been very helpful.. much appreciated.

It is a beautiful theme. I’m considering starting a photo blog just so I can use it :-D
A text widget sounds like a good idea.
Glad I could help.

Entirely Off-Topic but I find confusing your use of the BY-NC-ND Creative Commons license displayed in your sidebar and the copyright statement which follows it:©2011-2014 Photos and Written Content All Rights Reserved. Please do not take my pictures without permission.
The Creative Commons license you’re displaying allows your material to be shared as long as these conditions are met:
Attribution: You are credited as the source
Non-Commercial: Your material isn’t being used for commercial purposes
Non-Derivative: Your material cannot be redistributed if it has been changed from the original. You may want to review again to decide what you are releasing under the CC license and what you wish to have full copyright over and see what works best for you.

Thanks for the heads up JustJennifer! I just switched from the Book Lite theme to Sketch and my footer widgets I quickly added to the sidebar of the new theme. I added the Creative Commons license and neglected removing the old copyright statement. I will say that I am a bit confused by the copyright law but think the current Creative Commons license works for me. I have googled copyright laws but would you be willing to suggest an article or source that you find informative and easy to understand? Thank you again for your thoughtful and helpful commnet!

I’d recommend you start with these: http://en.support.wordpress.com/prevent-content-theft/
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2007/12/01/what-is-copyright/
http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2009/02/05/copyright-basics-for-bloggers/Also carefully read the terms of the CC licence on their website. Especially take not that you can’t revoke a CC licence. Once you publish something under that licence you can never un-license it.

Thanks kokkieh! I think I am going to take both off the sidebar for now and read your links. I have read the prevent-content-theft link before, but will read again for a refresh. I just read about the un-license issue again just previous to your comment.
