commenting without registering

The problem of commenters having to register with wordpress or gravatar credentials has not been solved. That is, it was temporarily, but now the problem has returned. And my “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” box is UNchecked. Why does this problem keep cropping up? I had a giveaway last week and had a huge spike in views, but no comments (except one spam commenter). My blog is NewInEveryWay.wordpress.com.

Is WordPress going to remove the requirement of logging in with WordPress or Gravatar credentials in order to make a comment? This is the third time I have registered my frustration with this feature. I cannot continue here if my readers continue to be discouraged from commenting! I thought dialogue was the main purpose of a blog. Why are you discouraging it? My target audience are not all wordpress bloggers!

Here I am again. I just want to apologize for the irritable-ness of yesterday’s message. WordPress is a great blog home. I really want to stay, so I am hoping that the ability to comment without logging in will be restored.

Not to worry. I know exactly how you feel and empathize. Some of my best WordPress.com blogging buddies moved to WordPress.org installs over this issue. It was the last straw for them.
