I am stumped by what has been happening the last several times that I publish a new post. A comment seems to be automatically generated by who I do not know. In the comment, as I have received after posting my latest post (today) is below. Can someone give me a heads up on why this is happening and how to correct the automated (seeming)comment after I publish.

Please see below. Thank you for you help in this matter. Craig

It looks like somebody is giving you a pingback. You can see their original post referencing you if you click on their username.

Maybe they’ve subscribed to your feed. You won’t know till you check out their site in context by clicking on the username. Is that your original text, or is it something they’ve written?

    raincoaster
That is my original text verbatim.

Also, when I click on the ip address that apparently generated the comment, I am taken to this page. This is the same originator of similiar comments that I have been receiving the last several times I have published a post.

Got any ideas on how to resolve this matter?

I really just need the URL that they left on your blog as a pingback. All of this is, at this point, extraneous.

  • Unknown's avatar

Opps. Sorry. Did not know how much information you needed so I wanted to be thorough. Here is the IP address that was left.

    IP: 72.232.101.34

Craig, those are pingbacks to your own posts, i think. When you link to a post in a new post, a pingback is generated that shows up as a comment on the post you linked to.

That’s a wordpress.com server. Are you linking to your other posts within your blog? I think you’re just doing internal pinkbacks. Feel free to deleet them if you want. It’s up to you. :)

I have been including links to my other posts in some of my more recent posts, rather than elaborating on the topic. I wonder why a comment is generated when I publish a new post that includes links to my other posts. Any ideas?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Craig,

in the righthand column on the Write Post page, there is a box called “Discussion”. There you will see the option to allow pings. You can uncheck the box if you don’t want to have pingbacks, but you will have to manually change every post you have.

I think you will find you want the pingbacks, because you will also get them when others link back to your blog. It’s one more way to see who is linking to you and finding your content useful.

Thank you Judy. I just have not had comments automatically generated via vi my own material until recently. I do not know why this started.

Also I have another unrelated question. Do you think signing up with Feed Burner is a good way to enhance visibility of my material? Thanks again for answering both questions Judy.

    Craig,

i have sent you an email re: FeedBurner ;)
