When people try to comment on my blog, it insists that they be logged into wordpress. I’ve turned off all the “before a comment appears” stuff and it still asks people to log in. Is there a way to bypass that?

Should be easy. Go to Options then Discussion and set it there. Also make sure that in the Discussion box on the side of the Write Post page you’ve got things enabled.
The blog is not private or anything like that, is it?
Note that on the Discussion page, you can choose between the following or even none of them:
Before a comment appears:
* An administrator must always approve the comment
* Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
* Comment author must have a previously approved comment -
Thanks, but it’s still not working – it says you must be logged in to comment. It’s not private, comments are enabled, and I’ve got it set so that comments don’t need approval, name and email, or previous comments.

I’m out of ideas. I’d send a feedback if I were you. They’re not all using an unusual browser, though, are they?

The checkbox you need is under Options->General. In the middle of the page there is a box that says something like “users must be logged in to comment”. Just uncheck it.

Oh man. Now I remember: that’s the second time this has come up. I should send in a feedback asking them to put all their darn comment ticking boxes in one spot instead of three.

i already did. I got an email back from Mark saying, “yeah, i don’t know why that’s there…”

Thank you! I’m so glad you didn’t remember at first either, because now I feel kind of stupid for not seeing that…
