  Can I change my settings so that my comments appear without clicking on the comment links on each post?

  I think that’s how comments work, that you have to click on each post in order to see the comments for each:
  https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/showing-comments-under-post?replies=4

  If it did not work that way, you could have a very slow loading home page if you had lots of comments always visible. And lots of scrolling for your readers to see more of your posts.

  At WP.com the comments never appear on the main blog page; they are always just on a particular post’s page. Otherwise your blog could grind to a total halt if you got a lot of comments.
