    People are not always able to leave a comment on my posts and when they can I’m not notified.

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    People are not always able to leave a comment on my posts and when they can I’m not notified.

  • Are they reporting any particular error message or trouble as far as not being able to comment? Is it a specific page/post that seems to be the problem? Or is it every page/post?

    A woman I know posted a comment on Feb 9 2015 to my post, “The Stupid Years”. I approved it. When she realized her telephone number was on it so I unapproved it. She reposted the comment without the tel. number but it never appeared.

  • It may have gotten caught up in “spam” due to the repost. Have you checked there?

    If it is a single user, I’m inclined to chalk it up to a glitch or user error in the absence of any other reports saying the same thing. but if you hear of more people having this issue, or you see it yourself when trying to comment/reply, please let me know.

    It’s not in spam. I’ll see if it happens again.

  • Please keep me updated.

    My brother, Rod posted a comment to my blog, “The Stupid Years” it was posted fine but I was never notified of it. Please see Rod’s comment

  • I see three pending posts for that comment, but none that are approved:

    Our email system is showing that 4 comment notification emails have been sent out over the past week or so.

  • My apologies, those are notification emails for these forum posts.

    Incidentally, are you getting emails for the replies here on this thread?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Yes, I’m getting reply emails for this thread. Those comments that were unapproved were formerly approved but I unapproved them when the commenter realized she had included her tel number. She then tried to comment again leaving it off but as I said at the start she was unable to. You said it may have been because it was a dupe. I’ll test the comments again to see if I get a notification.

    Okay, had someone post a comment. It posted fine right after she commented but I haven’t been notified yet of it’s posting. But she just did it ten minutes ago. I’ll check again tomorrow.

  • Let me know if the notification comes through. Also be sure to check your spam and/or “social” tabs/folders if you have them.

    Still didn’t get the notification. One more thing if you can help. How can increase the text size on my posts? Thanks.

  • You can do that with some custom CSS. There are a number of says to do that (and the CSS forum is a good resource here on WordPress.com), but you can try adding the following to the CSS edit window (in the “customize” area) after deleting all the informational text and then adjust the 100% number for font size as you see fit.

    .entry-content {
    font-size: 100%;
    }

    Hi there,

    I noticed you’ve already increased the size of the font in your posts by using the H3 heading rather than paragraph text. Do you want to leave it that way, or would you rather be able to use paragraph text that was easier to read?

    I’m happy to give you CSS that will increase the font size everywhere (including in your sidebar and footer widgets) but I need to know what you want to do about the text in your posts first–as we’ll use different code depending on which way you want to go.

    Let me know what you prefer and we’ll get your site looking the way you want it right away!

    Hi liz,
    I’m afraid I’m a bit of a klutz with this blog. I started a year ago and have been stumbling through as best I can. I used the Heading I guess what you call H3 in an attempt to make the text bigger. But as you can see it’s not a good choice.
    This CSS you speak of is that a custom thing I’d have to pay for. I recall signing up for some custom plan when I started. It costs about $33 a year.
    Haven’t changed much since I started. I guess if I’m not using Heading then I’m automatically in paragraph but can’t make the text bigger. I’d rather be in paragraph and make the text larger. Would that cost me another $33?

    It’s actually a custom thing you’ve already paid for. It is a yearly charge, but your current subscription doesn’t expire until June. So we can make the changes now without any extra expense and then in June you can decide if you like them well enough renew the upgrade.

    Does that work for you?

    I used the Heading I guess what you call H3 in an attempt to make the text bigger. But as you can see it’s not a good choice.

    It’s an understandable, and creative fix, but ultimately it would be better to fix the font in a more sustainable way.

    If you could change the heading back to paragraph font in one of your posts that will give us something to test changes on. Once we find something you like, you can switch the other posts back to standard text at your leisure.

    If you are game, let me know when you’ve updated one of the posts and we’ll get started!

    I have a post in draft form now. It’s in Paragraph. Could we work with that. How can I allow you to see my draft?

    The draft post works fine. I already have the access I need. :)

    The code below increased the font size in your posts. It’s not quite as big as the heading you are using now, but it should be a lot better.

    Just paste the code below into the CSS box of your customizer.

    .main-content{
    	font-size:130%
    }

    Here’s how that works.

    Go to the “customize” option in the dropdown menu under “My Sites” or click the link below:
    https://leebythesea.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.php?url=https%3A%2F%2Fleebythesea.wordpress.com%2F

    From there, open the CSS option on the left and paste the code.

    Click save at the top and you’ll be all set.

    This code only impacts the size of the font in your posts. If you also want the font in your sidebars and footers to be larger, we can talk about that next.
