Hi Liz,
I pasted the code you gave me and it worked fine. It looks to me like all my posts’ texts are bigger now. It gets applied to all posts apparently or am I not see it right?
I don’t see any text size change in the post in draft form though. Maybe when I post it? Hope to publish it today.
You know I’m 74 and just getting into this stuff. I appreciate your patience and help. I’m starting a series of classes tomorrow to learn blogging.
Maybe I should have done that first before starting the blog. But I am having fun. Thank you.
Yes, I would like to make the sidebars and footers larger too. -

Correct! The code affects all text within your posts across your entire site.
Yes, I would like to make the sidebars and footers larger too.
Can you try adding the following code and let me know if it gives you the desired look?
.sidebar-main, .sidebar-footer { font-size: 1.3em; } -
Hi!
It looks like the footer addition actually causes some of your widgets to overlap. For now, can you just use the following?
.sidebar-main { font-size: 1.3em; }That should increase the sidebar font size. We’re still working on a code for the footer widget!
-
I have one more suggestion that I believe will be simpler.
The problem with the footer right now is you have a very long list of categories down there. I recommend you update the footer widget to use a dropdown menu rather than the full list. That will be easier for your readers to find the category they are looking for, and it will make the code you got from Jeremey the first time work really well.
To update your categories widget, open the customizer, choose widgets and then footer widgets. From there, open the categories widget and check the “display as dropdown” option.
Once you’ve done that, add this code to your CSS box
.sidebar-main, .sidebar-footer { font-size: 1.3em; }Let me know if you need anything else!

You guys have been a great help to me these past few days and I have mentioned that at the blogging class I’m taking at Hofstra University.
But, I just posted today, “Sex…Beneath the Surface” and I stumbled upon a comment to it which again I did not receive a notification on. It is not in my spam either. Please correct. Thanks.
I also see that I never installed a Home Page. Can you tell me how to go about that?
Thanks,
Lee -

Thanks :) We appreciate it!

I checked our records and those e-mails are being sent. I also see you have 20 or so comments in your pending folder waiting for you to approve them. It’s possible your e-mail service is blocking e-mail from WordPress.com so the messages aren’t appearing in SPAM or anywhere else. Could you try adding “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” to your e-mail whitelist or safe-senders list? That should help.
I also see that I never installed a Home Page. Can you tell me how to go about that?
I see that you’ve set your about page as your front/home page. Is that what you were looking to do?

When you say SPAM, I don’t have a spam file. I do have a junk mail file that has all the mail sent to me considered junk. I don’t see any from Word press. I do get emails from WordPress that announces Friends confirming so that gets through. I also get WordPress emails from you guys at Help. But not the comment notifications.
Regarding the comments awaiting approval they are all approved. I too don’t know why they are there. It says awaiting moderation, not approval.
Again, they have all been approved except two, one had a telephone number, that the writer didn’t want shown so I unapproved it after approving it. She tried to put the comment on again without the tel number but could not do it. She has a WordPress account too.
Re: The About page. When I first started I knew even less than I do now if you can believe there ever could be such a time. So that was the best I could do.
But in the blog class I spoke about they showed a Front Page which they described as Prime Real Estate because of its value to bloggers. I saw a layout that looked cool and professional. Pull down menus etc.
Mine probably looks very hokey. But I’ve been getting by.
I went to try to make a page like I saw in class by clicking new page but it looks like it would only be like my about page. Is that right? -
OOOPS. I referred to WordPress emails getting through from Friends confirming. Obviously that was in error, that was Facebook.
But I do get notification on you guys. -

All of these comments are pending.
https://leebythesea.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php?comment_status=moderatedAwaiting moderation means the same thing as waiting for approval. Until you click the approve link on these (just hover over the comment to see the link) they won’t appear on your site.

Sorry. Some e-mail providers use the word spam, and others use junk. I wasn’t sure what your e-mail client called it. In any case, in addition to the messages that go to your junk mail, your e-mail provider may be blocking some messages from getting to you all together. if you have a way to tell your e-mail provider to let all e-mails from “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” be delivered to your inbox, that would help.

Based on your current theme, you could have a homepage that looks like this:
https://broadsheetdemo.wordpress.com/If you want to move in that direction, the instructions for that are here:

The other Happiness Engineers and I are also here to help if you get stuck :)

Thank you guys so much for your help. Somehow my comment page showed those comments approved. When you sent me a link to it they were needing approval. Does my page need to be refreshed my me after approval?
But here’s a comment I was neither notified of or appears on my post even after I approved it. See Moriarity’s comment:https://leebythesea.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php
Also, I’ve run into something new with this page I can’t seem to correct.
On my most recent post, “Sex…Beneath the Surface” there are quotes that only have the quotation marks at the beginning of the quote, the end of the sentence being quoted shows a half quote, like this ‘ the kind you’d use for a quote within a quote. I tried to correct it in edit but it won’t change. Even after of course clicking update. I even tried using my laptop keyboard directly instead of this wireless board I normally use. No good. See the opening line of the post and the quote at the end of the last paragraph. It also happened in mid-post quote. Whasup?
Thank you once again. -

If you follow the procedure I recommended, you shouldn’t have to refresh. If you continue to have trouble with that let me know.

https://leebythesea.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.phpThis comment was left on your about/front page. It appears there.

We’ve reported it, but it’s not part of WordPress.com itself, so I can’t be sure when it will be fixed. Because of that the fastest way to fix this problem is to choose a different font for your body text. Is there another one you like as well as what you are using?

Also, I write my rough drafts on an email page. I’m just comfortable with that. Then I copy and paste it into the WordPress blog page. Is that okay?
When I then edit the WordPress blog page I click save draft for each change because I’m afraid to lose the changes. Sometimes though I see the changes I made are still lost. Am I saving drafts too often?
-
How do I choose a new font?
You can change your fonts from your customizer window. Here’s a direct link:
Just click on “Fonts” to open up the font dialog. The software walks you through how to make changes, but if you have more questions let me know.

That should be ok. Sometimes you might end up with some strange formatting, but if you aren’t comfortable writing directly in the WordPress.com editor, your process should work out ok.

There is no such thing as saving too often, so that’s not the issue. Can you tell me what kinds of changes are lost and how often it happens?
-
Okay, I changed the font to one that carried the quotation marks correctly, thanks so much.
Now on a different subject if I May. I’m learning from my Blog class that blogs should be Narrowcast. Mine reflects current beach photos, stories and insights but also other issues especially relating to my past career as NYC Transit Police Detective.
I can’t think of a way to umbrella these under one topic so I thought I’d make another separate blog. I’d keep the Leebythesea.me but start, Wherethesundon’tshine dot something. How would I get that started?

I tried to start a new blog site. I chose wherethesundontshine.net but got lost. Can you see where I am at that and help me proceed. Sorry.
-
I’m not seeing another blog in your account, and it doesn’t look like you created a new account, so let’s do this step by step. wherethesundontshine.wordpress.com is already taken, and you will need a .wordpress.com url before you can add a custom domain (if you want one. https://wherethesundontshine.wordpress.com/ is taken so you’ll have to think of something else to begin with. Do you have any other ideas?
Once you’ve picked something you can signup here:

You may eventually be able to map wherethesundontshine.net to your new site, but you have to have a .wordpress.com address first.
For example, you have leebythesea.me mapped to your current site, but that address that makes it part of wordpress.com is http://leebythesea.wordpress.com/.
Before you can purchase the custom domain, you need to have the actual WordPress.com site.
Does that make sense?
