Okay, I guess I thought it went through when they gave me secondary choices. As long as I’m not half way through and got charged for it.
I guess I’ll have to come up with something else. I was going to use that Wherethesundontshine for my blog about the nyc subway. I thought it would have been cool. Have to think more.
I hope I understand right away from my next choice that it’s not available AT ALL. My bad.
Thanks so much for your patience. -
It sounds like you might have been trying to register your domain somewhere other than WordPress.com. Do you have a link to the site you were on when you were trying to register the domain?
Also wherethesundontshine.net IS still available as a custom domain, so you don’t need to abandon your idea, you just need a *.wordpress.com username first. If you plan to purchase the custom domain, the *.wordpress.com name doesn’t matter very much so don’t loose too much sleep on making it perfect.

I think I put where… in the box for user name too. Maybe that was the problem. I don’t know. Maybe tomorrow you can walk me through it? I did it when I got Leebythesea but don’t know how I did it.
I’m hitting the sack now, us oldsters punch out early. -
Okay, I now have a wordpress ID: Leebeneaththeapple and I’m being offered to register it for $18. to lose the .wordpress and have .com
But I really want my blog to be wherethesundon’tshine I put that down as blog address. What do I do now? -
When I go to Leebeneaththeapple.wordpress.com I do see my blog titled:
wherethesundon’tshine.I believe I can change the Leebeneaththeapple to wherethesundon’tshine too but I was only offered to register Leebeneaththeapple. Can I get the
wherethesundon’tshine to be my address for people to use? Also, if I can, can I use the apostrophe in it?
Thanks. -
Can I get the
wherethesundon’tshine to be my address for people to use?Not exactly, but now that you have leebeneaththeapple.wordpress.com setup you can get the custom domain upgrade you talked about earlier and connect wherethesundontshine.net to the new site.
Here’s how registering a domain works:
Let me know if you need help getting that set up.

I did it! Thanks for all your help. Just a couple of questions. I took the $99 special deal. Now it says because I did I’m entitled to a free domain. I think I can choose anther or use the Leebythesea.me as a free one, right?
That way I’ll not have to pay for the annual fee on that one? Also, when my site opens the title on the header has wherethesundontshine Can I change that so it’s separate words instead of altogether? Thanks.
-
Forgot to add. For the $99 do I have the custom deal where I can color text etc. Or will I still have to pay $33 per year again?
-
It looks like you have this all setup correctly. Great job!

Actually you have the option here to use your free domain leebeneaththeapple.wordpress.com, or to add a custom domain with your Premium upgrade. You added the custom domain wherethesundontshine.net. So you are all set there.
Forgot to add. For the $99 do I have the custom deal where I can color text etc. Or will I still have to pay $33 per year again?
The $99 premium upgrade includes the custom design features–you do not need to pay another $33.
Also, when my site opens the title on the header has wherethesundontshine Can I change that so it’s separate words instead of altogether?
No problem. That’s your site title. You can change it to whatever you want–it is controlled separately from your URL. Here’s the page where you can change it.

This has been a great day for me. As you know my blogging class said I should be narrowcasting. I hadn’t been doing that, just doing general beach, police, military and other interests.
Now I can separate beach and subway, my old career as a NYC Transit Detective. I intend to make “where the sun don’t shine” my first narrowcast, the beach of Long Beach, NY my second even though I’m doing it longer. I have a lot of insight in the subway issues and intend to go back there shoot photos and ask questions. I think I have a pretty intriguing name for it now. Thanks to you!
Right now I’m trying to get a header photo for the new blog but it seems the choice on header size is very narrow 230 x 1600 pixels. Can I change to another theme that would allow a bigger header shot? Can you suggest one?
Thanks so much for your help. Yes, I will let you know if I need future help after this episode. Can I count on you as a responser?
You’ve been the best. -
I’m back.
How do I add my free domain. When I click the suggestion it takes me to a page where it looks like I’m just changing a wordpress domain to a custom domain. Should I type Leebyethesea.me in it and hope for the best? -

The best thing to do is to go theme shopping! You can scroll through the options here:
How do I add my free domain.
I see you updated your http://leebythesea.wordpress.com/ site to Premium as well. You have a couple of options here. We can bundle your existing domain leebythesea.me into your upgrade. If we do that, you’ll just pay one upgrade fee ($99) each year. If you want 2 domains on the same site, you could get another domain to go with your existing one. I don’t really recommend that, but it’s up to you.
Let me know which way you want to go on this and I’ll help you get set up.

Re the theme shopping. I can choose any theme without having to pay more?
And if we bundle the two domains together I’ll just pay $99 each year. That will make both of them premium with all the custom choices? Will that include the extra storage space. I think I saw 10gig. I can’t recall what else was there but they’d both be the same, right? That sounds good.

You can choose any free theme without having to pay more. Here’s a direct link to the free themes only:
https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sort/free/

No, sorry. I should have been more clear.
You can bundle the domain with each of the Premium upgrades you’ve purchased. This means you would pay $99 per year for your leebythesea.me site, and $99 per year for your http://wherethesundontshine.net/. site.
You would not have to pay separately for the custom design options or the custom domains on either site.
Hopefully that’s a little more clear.
If you are still interested in setting things up that way, let me know and I’ll take care of it.
-
When I took the $99 plan I thought I was offered a free domain, either a new one or an existing one. So, I thought I’d make my existing Leebythesea the free one. Did I have that right? Can you check on my offer from them?
-
Sorry, I think we both got a little confused. Let’s back up.
You purchased a $99 plan for your new leebeneaththeapple.wordpress.com site. That plan came with a free domain. You chose wherethesundontshine.net as your free domain. That means the free domain has been used.
I mistakenly thought you had also added the $99 WordPress.com Premium upgrade to your other site, leebythesea.wordpress.com. I looked again, and I was wrong about that. You have a custom domain and a the custom design upgrade, plus a premium theme on that account.
So both of your sites are actually set up exactly the way they are supposed to be.
-
Okay, I thought the $99 included the domain (wherethesundontshine) cost for lee beneaththeapple. And that I was entitled to a free domain on top of that which I hoped to use for Leebythesea. Guess I misunderstood.
Can I press you one more time so I have it clear? What do I get exactly for the $99, I recall increased storage? Those themes I was shopping through have price tags, $79 etc. Can I ignore those prices? Or will I be led to purchase page? Are some included in my plan others not?
And can you tell my total annual costs now and when they are due.
Sorry for all this confusion. -
Can I press you one more time so I have it clear? What do I get exactly for the $99,
Sure! The WordPress.com Premium plan includes:
- The custom domain name http://wherethesundontshine.net/
- The custom design upgrade: https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
- Video Press: https://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/
- Extra Storage: https://en.support.wordpress.com/space-upgrade/
- No ads: https://en.support.wordpress.com/no-ads/
Those themes I was shopping through have price tags, $79 etc. Can I ignore those prices? Or will I be led to purchase page?
Premium themes are not included, so if you choose a theme with a price tag, you will need to pay for that separately. Note: Premium theme purchases are a one time expense, not a yearly expense like the other upgrades.
And can you tell my total annual costs now and when they are due.
Sure, you can see all of your upgrades and when they expire here: https://wordpress.com/my-upgrades
If that’s confusing, or you have more questions, let me know!
-
Thanks for the info. I’ll stick with what I have for now.
Okay, working on setting up the new Wherethesundon’tshine site. I liked the classic edit which I don’t see. And I don’t see my option for coloring text, etc. How do I do that.
