Has there been an ‘upgrade’ that is now adding all kinds of code to comments?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there @scottc1 – the old comments system is currently being overhauled, but it definitely shouldn’t be adding random code! Could you please provide links to a couple of posts where comments don’t look right and we’ll be glad to have a look. I spot-checked a few on your site but didn’t immediately spot any problems, so some links would be helpful. Thank you!

The problem isn’t that the comments don’t look right. The problem is when you go to edit them after they have been posted, it includes all kinds of code embedded into them, making it cumbersome to edit. Is there any way to go back to the classic look when editing comments?

When editing a post, you have the choice of whether to use the “visual editor” or to see the code. Is there any way to have the same choice when editing a comment?

  • Hey there,

Thank you for clarifying, can you provide an example of a comment that has additional formatting making it difficult to edit?

Thanks, look forward to hearing from you.

It isn’t “additional formatting”. The problem is that, when editing a comment, instead of just seeing the text of the comment, I see all of the code:

For a simple example, one comment says “I am legit stunned by this.” But if I try to edit the comment, it looks like this:

    “<I– wp:paragraph –>

    <p>I’m Legit stunned by this. <br /></p>

    <I– wp:paragraph –><I– wp:paragraph –>

    <p></p>

    <I– wp:paragraph –>”

Having said that, the problem seems to have resolved itself. Editing is back to normal.

  • Hey there,

Thank you for sharing this specific example. After receiving lots of feedback regarding this change, our developer team has reverted the change. They will be addressing some of the feedback received and improving the experience.

Thank you for providing this helpful feedback regarding the new comments.
